It's paying off if this post is a result. It could easily be made into a short story by giving a deeper physical discription of the fellow; using it to tell more of his past. Perhaps having you as the last customer of his shift and you walk out to the parking lot and offer him a ride home. You could then bring his community ice cream events a bit more alive by describing the neighbourhood on the ride home and some of those in it.
Anyway, you left this reader wanting more. 😎
Thanks for the kind compliments. These little moments I run into during my daily life are truly inspiring to me. I think that God(cosmos, universe, etc.) know how deeply needy I am when it comes to life lessons and wanting something to have hope in.
