The Villages Above The Clouds

The village of Wae Rebo in Flores located at an altitude of 4.000 feets above sea level is a paradise that is above the clouds. Need to struggle to achieve it, but what's to come by when it gets to a location comparable to the travel undertaken. The natural landscape in the form of mountains interspersed with 7 cone shaped custom homes will give the impression of its own for every visitor who has come to the village of Wae Rebo. The village of Wae Rebo located southwest of the town of Ruteng, Manggarai, Nusa Tenggara Timur. To get to the location it was not easy because of its location on the mountain. Need extra personnel to travel away for about 3 to 4 hours. Depending on the physical condition because the route to the village of Wae Rebo is climbing as far as 4 miles.

The village of Wae Rebo I call the most beautiful villages in Indonesia, and the village is absolutely no signal. The village of Wae Rebo from side of tourism is very well managed, because this village was accompanied and provided guidance on tourism by Indonesia Ecotourism Network. The goal of advancing the villages that had been less note into a tourist village that many people want to visit. Visitors to the village of Wae Rebo in Flores should start from Ruteng. If driving from Denpasar (Bali), can go straight to Ruteng via air. If there were no flights to Ruteng, you can use the bus or travel from Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai which takes about 6 hours. After arriving in Ruteng, the journey continues towards the village of Denge or Dintor for a little over 2 hours, which is the last village accessible by vehicle.

For Denge can use taxi or truck wood, usually can be found in the terminal Mena operating from 09.00 till 10.00 AM. If you want a more efficient, use wooden truck. It's just that this transit does not operate every day. The next trip is within walking distance to the village of Wae Rebo for 4 to 5 hours. When should use the taxi from Ruteng to get to the village of Denge, then the cost more expensive, could reach Rp. 150,000 to Rp. 200,000 per once drove. More efficient use of wood truck rate of only Rp. 30,000 per person. For facilities, in the village of Denge is a home stay that can be used to stay. Not far from the home stay there is an information center and a library. Upon arriving in the village of Wae Rebo, you can take in the custom house belonging to local communities if it is to stay. Here there is no home stay or residence special because it only consists of 7 custom homes.

In addition to the beautiful scenery, we are greeted with the hospitality of its people arrive in the village of Wae Rebo. Here we can find the traditional house consisting of 7 fruit in which has endured for 19 generations. It is also becoming the attraction of the tourists especially from abroad. They are generally curious to see directly the traditional house called "Mbaru Niang". Made of wood with roofs of reeds that are weaved. Mbaru form Niang pursed up, a traditional architectural. Seven "Mbaru Niang" is gathered in the vast land of green hills dotted with picturesque surroundings, a chilly still so cool because it is surrounded by the forest. The village of Wae Rebo is an historic place so that it becomes a world heritage site by UNESCO in December 2012.

In addition to the Custom House which became an attraction, the life of the society is also very interesting to know. Most brides make farming and community weaving. There is also a coffee garden, visitors will be served coffee usually typical Flores delights. A blend of local culture with wisdom 7 custom homes situated on a hilltop green make this place is like paradise above the clouds. Unfortunately, the reality of the place as beautiful as this is still foreign to Indonesia even though the community is very well known abroad.
