At least 60 years of age is required to be a senior citizen in our country. However, this age standard is different in different countries. From an international point of view, therefore, the period between the middle 40 and 70 years can be considered old age. The United Nations considers the age of 60 and over to be an elderly person.
What needs to be done to stay well?
There are several things that can be done to stay physically and mentally healthy at this age. The biggest of these is maintaining healthy habits.
To be physically fit
• Keep active by exercising regularly. If that is not possible then at least walk for 30-60 minutes
• Eat a balanced and healthy diet to keep weight under control. Daily food should be rich in fiber, low in fat and cholesterol
• Consult a doctor regularly. It is desirable to have dentist, ear, eye and heart doctor among them
• Take all medicines regularly as prescribed by the doctor
• Get enough sleep
• If you have a drinking habit, control it and avoid smoking
• Move carefully so as not to fall. There is no end to the irony of broken limbs in old age
• Seek medical advice immediately if there is any problem with sex life
To be mentally well
• • Stay connected with friends, family and people in your community
• Find your passion and spend time with it
• To stay stress free you can do pranayama, listen to music, go for a walk nearby, visit religious places, spend time with children as much as possible etc.
