Time is capable of changing the history of a whole nation; it could improve its population, flourish, and generation. Also, it could be vice versa. As for public education, it takes the same road to it a way of progressing for decades, and that’s what the documentary “School: The Story of American Public Education.” It shows through time how they were able to improve public education and increase it benefits to be for everyone instead of keeping it private and specified for one denomination.
The purpose of teaching exposed to many changes through history in America according to that documentary. We could see how much effort been put in public school to improve and increase the number of building, supplies, and materials. The video shows how the school is consists of different cultures and background which to some extent formed an argument about religious beliefs and affected attendance of a student in some period back then. With time going, the education content change and drift away from religious purposes to be more worldly educated about a general subject that could be of benefit to the theme in real life struggle.
Public education is an essential part of the society to make sure of the improvement of generation. The “Philosophy of Education” title of chapter eight in the book “Teacher, School And Society” in which it shows how we could form our philosophy of education and linking it to that documentary to create it. Goals for education has changed due to societal conditions and needs of its nation. By putting this into consideration, we could have a rich background about student needs and expectation to form our philosophy to benefit and educate them directly and appropriately.
