Technology is spreading to be used everywhere and to incorporated in everything that might help make the job easier for its owner. It is necessary to know where to find it uses and in what fields. The building today's are meant to function only with technology and without it, the work would stop and shut down. At Southern Connecticut State University one time an accident happened that caused it to close for several hours because it can’t function without electricity that uses for technological machines that help teachers and students in the learning process. The book Technology, A Reader for Writers, is a good choice for students because it explains how essential technology is in our life, it’s usage and teaches how to write effectively with the excellent essays that introduced in the book.
The book Technology, A Reader for Writers, made by Johannah Rodgers, who’s an Assistant Professor of English and Rhetoric at The City University of New York, and it’s published by Oxford University Press, Inc. in 2015. It’s the first edition and a part of series that carry different perspectives. The pages are 351, and it contains seven chapters that include various topics in life that related to technological uses. The cover of the book is Brown and designed by Todd S. Williams. The subject in this book helps the student to be informed more about the technology uses that around them and not only limited to devices and phones. They use it in education to get more accurate information on a course, and even professor depend on it to present their lessons to the learner as a more efficient way. Every chapter helps readers to appreciate technology more and acknowledge it’s existence around us.
Furthermore, the chapters touch not only education involvement with technology but also healthcare and millennials contribution with devices and how it affect them and future society in the way of socializing. Moreover, it provides resources and online access to numerous of books, news, and articles that keep people connected to the outside world. It gives a further view to the future by its example of science fiction and discusses the possibility of intelligent machines that might live along with humans physically and mentally in future.
Technology became an important part of our society today. Teachers use it to improve their way of teaching and presenting ideas. Visual learning is much more efficient and diverse that learning from one source. Even some of the courses are being held and guided online by professors without a physical present. Also, it takes about how books being transformed from the solid material into the online screens to be available to every user. As in the article The Death of the Book by Ursula K. Le Guin, he said: “‘the book’ is growing taking on a second form and shape, the ebook”(157). He explains in that article not only books transformed to the online world but also people connected to that world with reading and writing instead of face to face interaction. That’s how technology changed human life in all good and bad way. The book helps to identify its importance in daily living.
On the other hand, the internet helps people to be connected with another far away from them. It helps millennials to interact and present their ideas and thoughts through it. That’s how the book views the internet as the tool to be used to make a change and be a part of the other nation. It “connects millennials to other communities across the world”(11) as Sarah Murray said in her article Transition: Technology Puts Power in the Hands of Many. It’s a way to humans to be close despite the distance and share their opinions with each other and figure out solutions to be implemented. That shows technology as a useful tool that creates bonds with other nation.
At the end of the book, there is an example of MLA format that provided to the student as an example to help them with their writing in school. It also contains different writing styles from essays into other forms as a comic like the one by Scott McCloud “Media and Communication”(102) that present ideas about communication with a small comic drawing. The other essays provide different ideas about introduction, body, and conclusion that student might inspire with this example presented to them as whole argument article.
This book is an excellent example to be given to a student today to show how technology is not only specified and limited to devices like phones and computers; it also being used all around them but they never pay any close attention to them. Technology has made for the purpose of making life easier and simpler, and it will continue to be advanced more in future. Technology, A Reader for Writers, inform students about that idea and also provide them with good writing examples that could improve their styles in writing essays and how to form it with critical thinking and analyses. There wouldn’t be any other topic that could have been more important than technology comparing to our today society development.
