2 days old and already causing trouble... just like his daddy!
So Oscar is improving well after a little scare last night. As we were getting ready to try and sleep on the maternity ward last night, a consultant paid us a visit to inform us that Oscar's blood was not clotting properly and that he needed to have a plasma blood transfusion over night. If this failed then he would need to be moved to Nottingham QMC where they have more facilities to perform further tests and provide more support.
This had destroyed all our chances of sleep... I managed to get a few broken hours in between constantly worrying about whether I would wake up and Oscar wasnt with us in the hospital anymore.
However, good news greeted us this morning. Oscar took well to his transfusion and was exactly where we left him when we returned to the neonatal intensive care unit this morning. He truly is a warrior.
By the end of today, good news after good news (thank god). First they were able to take him off his antibiotic line and following that they were then able to take him off the morphine drip as well! My confidence was growing and we (me and Jade) finally cracked some smiles.
Jade has been discharged and as we were leaving, we popped to say night to Oscar when more good news awaited. He was coming off the ventilator! 9 weeks early, 1lb 15oz and almost fully self sufficient after 2 days!
It really is amazing how strong these little babies are and I'm so in love with my son <3 I haven'tquite got used to being called a daddy yet but my god I am so happy and relieved to know that he is improving daily.
Here's a couple of photographs of my boy without a breathing tube down his throat 😊 he still has an air line up his nose to help his lungs stay open as they are stixky when babies.
Wow, looks like you've got your hands full there! He'll be home before you know it. :-)
Well. i'm in love. heheheheh
Auntie Dreemie!!!!! LOLOLOLOL

Kisses to Jade - you are all doing wonderfully - i'm so happy your little Warrior is growing strong!!!
Thankyou from us both, we really are overwhelmed by the support we've got 💙
I can't even imagine how worrying the last few days have been for you, but so pleased to hear he's doing so well. Congratulations!
He looks perfect! So tough! Pleased for both of you.
Thank you, he's by no means out the deep end yet but it's reassuring to know he's fighting for us. I can't wait for a cuddle :)
He looks like a warrior! I am so happy that Oscar is doing so well after two days. They won't likely discharge him home until he is at least 5 pounds. But it is good to know he is doing well. How are mom and dad holding up?
They will probably keep him until hes at least at the 37 weeks of pregnancy stage. Little steps forward are fine with me, next stage is to move from incubator to a cot then its cuddle time 😊
Cuddles are the best!
Awww @praada so gorgeous congratulations and I'm so pleased he is improving so quickly :)
Who'd of thought I'd have the support of people around the globe. This is the power of steemit 😊
