Look for the Good
Speak well and of each other. Look for good qualities in others rather than their faults. A saying, true, says : The devil flatters us that we are very righteous, when we are feeding on the faults of others. As a teacher of many years, I soon learned, however difficult, that I had to love each child in my class if they would understand and be successful. I was always a bit concern about my children's teachers, because some just couldn't care.
David O McKay warned against fault finding when he said: "I know of nothing of our home life which will tend to influence young people to stray from their duties than fault finding by their parents. Finding fault in your children, is like termites eating the foundation of your house. A friend of mine realized that she was becoming a habitual faultfinder. She also realized the harm this would bring to herself, her entire family and to her friends. She knew that she had to break this habit.
Whenever she began fault finding, she stopped herself and wrote down all the good qualities of the person she had criticized. It took persistent effort, but in few months she had overcome the faultfinding habit and in the years following she became known for her talent of bringing out the best qualities in her family and friends.
Every man and woman have faults. If we look we will find them. We should rather look inward at our own faults. The same men and women also have virtues, and with the same effort it takes to find faults, virtues can be found. McKay also said "I do not know of anything that will contribute more to unity in a state, country, family, than people to speak well of each other.
What I do when with friends and gossiping is evident, I just say one good thing about said person and its amazing how the discussion changes immediately. Every single person needs recognition. Some needs more than others. It can make or break an individual. If you dislike yourself, you can't really like others. Life can be difficult, with hard trials at times. It will not help you one iota to go around being unpleasant and grumpy. See what you can learn from the experience.
