Exposing Bollywood For The Sexists They Are!
I had enough of it. My thoughts and how I got in the face of one of the largest B roll producers and told him off. .
Recently in India one of the main aspects of Bollywood coming to light is the discrimination between males as well as females.
If you do not know about me yet, I am a spunky young chic that doesn't take shit, as you may have read in my experience inside a scam call center.
So this time I set out for Bollywood to see what I could uncover. . .
A call to a friend.
My first thought when getting the low down on this was to call my friend in the industry. Being a journalist for a little while now, I know some peeps. (Yes, namedropping now!..) Specifically Kanti Shah. Now Kanti is an eccentric man and is not scared to tell you what is on his mind!
I called him up last night and sure enough, he sounded high on Cocaine and there seemed to be women with him. Typical Kanti.
"Kanti, we both know the industry is sexist. But is it getting any better?" I asked.
"Even though the actresses of Bollywood are in high demand but when you compare the pay of actresses as well as actors, you would see that there is a stark difference between both." Kanti Replied.
"Why don't the women demand more to create a fair market?" I asked.
"Well. . . You see Rachel. There is many women that want to be a star!" Kanti replied and I heard some women giggle in the background.
Even the lead actresses are not paid half as good as the lead actors. Moreover, exploitation in the name of economic opportunities is pretty common in Bollywood. There have been plenty of such instances reported by the news websites as well. That is why most of the actresses fearing this harassment leave the career in search for more fairer industries.
"You know Kanti... You are a big part of the problem" I said and put down the phone. I was fuming.
The objectification of women has become an integral part of most of the Bollywood movies. Due to this very reason, no one flinches an eye these days when such a part is included in the local movies. This has led to a change in the perception of the society when it comes to women.
Another downside of Bollywood actors as well as actresses is that Bollywood objectifies women.
That is why the sexual violence in the country is also increasing pretty rapidly. While the actors are hired more for their acting prowess, most of the actresses are hired just because of their beauty. In most of the movies, you would find the objectification of women repeatedly and their character often involves only objectification rather than focusing on their acting skills.
Due to this very reason, the sexism in Bollywood is pretty rampant and it is evident. In addition to that, you need to keep in mind that most of the actresses do not have the same level of opportunities as the male actors. This further reduces the scope for the advancement in Bollywood.
Due to all of these reasons, it would not be wrong to say that Bollywood is extremely sexist and does not give equal significance to women actors. Because of this, many talented actresses are not able to make their mark in Bollywood and are not offered the same opportunities as men. In addition to that, there are various other instances as well which highlight the sexism of Bollywood.
