Iceland trip part 2: is it worthwhile?

in #life7 years ago

The land of fire and ice! The first few days discovering Iceland brought us to Borgagnes and the surrounding areas.

My first impressions of iceland are great. Compared to most countries it is very quiet. You can drive for hours and you wont encounter many cars or houses along the road. The people are friendly an most of them speak exellent english. Prices however are high, but in return you get free hot water and free mineral water straight from the tap!

Today we visited three highlights known as the golden circle. Pingvellir, Geysir, and Gullfoss.

Pingvellir is the place where the eurasian plate seperates from the american techtonic plate. This creates a beauiful valley as you can see on the picture.

In Geysir you encounter natural hotsprings. Every few minutes the hotspring "erupts" and sprouts smouldering hot water in the air. It's a beautiful spectacle to witness. There is also a distinct sulphur smell in the air thanks to damps of the hotspring. A unique sight indeed.

The last visit of today was the waterfall in gullfoss. Due to the seperating techtonic plates a very curious design waterfall was formed.

More updates will follow. The next trip will include a visit to the capital Reykjavik.

is it cold all year round or do they have a summer like in uk?

Its a whopping 13degrees Celsius. A lot of rain and clouds and from time to time a bit of sunshine.

so bring some woolly jumpers then and a raincoat. Mind you it has gone all cold here as well....had to turn on the central heating on ...... in our summer !

Oh wow this looks great ... I do love nature!!!

Another fun fact of iceland: this time of the year the sun goes down at 0:30 and comes up at 2:30. I still have to witness my first sundown in iceland.

Oh wow that is really cool I didnt know this :) A fun fact about Scotland you never see the sun lol I dont think that is fact but i feel I never see the guy

Hahaha yeah, I always say, "The summer in Holland is a beautiful day" ;p but I guess the summer in Scotland is a beautiful hour! ;P
