In the year 400 a.d The Greeks had slain the Persians and decided it was time to go home . They had to cross the lands surrounding the black sea to get back to Greece . On their way they stumbled upon honey . They ate out of this honey like it was the last honey on earth . After a couple of minutes , the crew members started tripping balls . The ones who ate too much started to puke and get ferocious diarrhea . However if the crew members had just taken about a spoon of the honey , they would have enjoyed a sweet high. Luckily no one died , the next day they got up and continued their journey .

But what exactly makes someone trip donkeyballs when ingesting this magnificent golden elixir ?

well , the answers lays in a flower called rhododendron . There are about 700 types of rhododendron flowers but only 3 of them make the substance that is needed for this mind-boggling honey . Grayanotoxins in the flower are responsible for the symptoms . This substance can be dangerous , cause in high doses it messes with your vagus nerve and so causing irregular heartrate , nausea , diarrhea and passing out like the Greeks .

Those are just the cons of taking too much though . If you take about a spoon of it you can start flying high like the bees of Turkey . This honey is also found in Nepal , and there are plenty cool documentaries about it .
