Life, The Story of Struggle
The day I became a parent myself, my entire thought process changed. The sight of that slimy little squalling creature, one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen. When she looked at me for the first time, I lost all bearing. One of the most precious gifts to be given to me. Growing up I was always told the most important aspect of parenthood was sacrifice. The sacrifice of your needs, wishes, and desires for the pursuit of your child's own. It was at that moment that I truly understood what was meant and it was like a light was flipped on.
Most parents want to give their children the life they never had, which is noble. No child deserves to be neglected, abandoned, or abused and should be known without discussion. A child should never know despair. If they do then it's apparent that you are not a parent and you deserve punishment. It's a difficult and challenging task to accept, and things hardly ever go as planned but such is life. Don't give up.
Understanding that it's up to you to prevent despair, its also important that your child still knows struggle. Struggle is the foundation of learning, it has been said that necessity is the mother of invention. Without struggle, you will have a weak and dependant personality, unable to then prepare your children for life. Struggle makes you appreciate and understand value, it's what gives you the initiative to act and pursue. Struggle makes the man, the man overcomes the struggle, man has been taught.
Everything in life has a balance and without that balance there will always be consequences. For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction, and you can never escape duality. The older generations wonder why the younger are so much softer. They don't understand the struggles weren't there are not the same. You have to provide struggle and hard times without allowing despair, in order to build a strong character within your child. It's up to you to maintain that duality.
When given the gift of parenthood, remember that it is a blessing. It is your chance to have a larger impact on the world. Your child will be a reflection of you and will strive to make you proud. Through your support and attention, your child can be amazing. What a beautiful opportunity for the both of you. May love light up your life and embrace the struggle. Struggle, The Story of Life.
