Silent Disco and Cypher Sessions at the River

What is a Silent Disco?

A silent disco is a party where DJs play music through headphones. Rather than one DJ blasting their music through a sound system, multiple DJs broadcast their sets on wireless headphones. It's a convenient party atmosphere because you can change the channels on your headphones to the DJ of your choice or even choose to not listen to the music. You can listen to music at a party without worrying about having to talk over the music. Its also a very versatile way for DJs to coordinate parties, as you have none of the issues that come along with playing loud music and lugging around speakers.

My good friend @threebagsfull organizes silent disco events, and yesterday I helped him out with his party at the American River in Sacramento. A total of seven DJs played sets through the three channels throughout the day. Some portions were live music sets, where the artist would play their music through the headphones while singing or rapping into the mic. People who came out to the river were intrigued by the prismatic headphones wrapped around peoples necks and skulls, inevitably renting pairs for themselves. Its a very interesting party dynamic.

Cypher Sessions, a Santa Cruz hip hop collective, organized a hip hop cypher at the silent disco. Local emcees would freestyle over the beats coming through the headphones. Check out a video of the cypher below!

And to finish things, here's the superhuman @threebagsfull, suspended from his skynet. The good life.
