Learn to control uncomfortable feelings

in #life5 years ago

Nobody is perfect and no man has the ability to look into the future and mend things their way. The future solely depends upon the decisions we take now. Often times we end up taking naïve decisions and bear the fruit of it in the days to come. This can lead to unhappiness and discomfort in one’s life. Certain times we’re faced with uncomfortable feelings that seem to overshadow us. Guilt, sorrow, and feeling left out are just a few of these uncomfortable feelings to mention. How we feel has a lot to do with the environment we live in and the people we grow among, needless to mention the decisions we take too.

One is not born the wisest, one becomes wise through pain and knowledge m. Life is a sum of experiences; that are open to all of us and is always potentially one decision away from a completely different direction. Discomfort lies everywhere, in awkward situations, in isolation and even in a group of friends you cannot relate to. But don’t worry, these uncomfortable feelings might seem impossible to control but it’s just your mind playing tricks with you.

Here is how you can try and get rid of these uncomfortable feelings;

1- Realizing yourself and polishing the natural skills you have

Every human being is born with a set of particular skills, these can be as vast as from being smart, being good at a particular sports, having natural looks, being good at a particular art to as simple as being able to empathize with others and help them. Which is why so many professions exist so as to accommodate all of the different unique skills of people. Where most people go wrong is that they take too much time to realize their own self and the set of skills they have been gifted and rather try and develop skills that are not their domain. Yes, it’s possible to develop new skills such as speaking and writing or learning and mastering a new software, but it is impossible to change the chemistry of brain and force it to develop major skills that it is not programmed to. You’re always naturally good at something, realize those skills and polish them. You’d be much more happy and satisfied with life.

2- Don’t fit in when you’re meant to stand out

The environment we grow up in and the people we interact with have a lot of influence on us, they shape our characters and the way we think. It is not in our hands to control the society or the environment we grow in but we can definitely control the type of people we interact with. You do not have to fit in with the rest of the people for the fear of being alone, you’re meant to stand out and it’s always the odd in the group that’s unique and if you’re that odd one among your group, you’re really just unique stuck with people that do not share the same caliber.

3- Don’t overthink, act

Let’s face it, we’re all scared of failure. This fear holds us back from achieving wonderful things in life. We always regret the chances we didn’t take in life and we missed out on them because of our fear of failure. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither will the kind of life you have imagined for yourself if you always let the fear of failure undermine you. Fail a couple times and you will eventually prevail. Save yourself the regrets of future, think critically, break down your goals into small achievable checkpoints and act on achieving them

4- Trust yourself and have faith in yourself

The mirrors lie, you’re more than what meets to an eye. How many times have you changed your choices/decisions just because someone didn’t share the same optimism? The thing is, our brains are hardwired to think uniquely which is why in life sometimes we agree with people and sometimes we don’t. Have faith in yourself, trust yourself and the direction you’re heading towards and don’t let anybody tell you, you’re not worthy of something. Surround yourself with positive people and watch how you excel in life.

5- Accept the pace of life and make the most out of it

We can’t change the cards we have been dealt, some are born with more privileges and some with less. Life has a pace for everyone. Don’t look up to others with envy and don’t let material sadden you. Rich is not success. Make the most out of your situation and work towards the goal you have set for yourself. Crying over your present will only affect your future. Don’t waste your skills, chase excellence. Realize that life slows down and speeds up eventually and that you’re running in life along with 7 billion other people with different pace, some slow, some fast.

Be wise and open to new areas of life and above all, don’t be afraid of failure.
