A Fragrant Garden: Forgotten Flowers that Smell Great

in #life7 years ago

Most of the flowers in flower shops around us are nothing but eye candy. Their petals may be vibrant, or their shape can be astonishing, but when you will bring them closer to your nose, you will leave your nostrils disappointed.

Here’s a list of flowers that come with their unique fragrances that make them top choices to make perfumes. These flowers have sweet smells and will leave your senses well-treated, whether you close your eyes or keep them open (while smelling them of course!)

Roses

Roses aka king of the flowers smell sweet and look beautiful. But many florists today have giant and perfect looking roses that have no hint of fragrance. It is hard to find true roses. When looking for roses with fragrance, look for a garden that has old variations of the flowers. Look for flowers with imperfect shape, little layering, and real thorns. Smell them and your senses will thank you. Some of the most fragrant roses come in deep pink, yellow, and purple shades.

Magnolia

These blossoms come in white and deep pink colors (usually white though). These flowers are bigger than any other fragrant flower. These flowers start to bloom right at the beginning of spring and one can smell them in the air on warm days. They bloom for a very short period though. These flowers do not do well once plucked. They start to whither immediately and turn brown. Better smell them on branch.

Lilac

Lilacs are small but come with a strong fragrance. They bloom in clusters and can be smelled even from far. They are usually white but also come in pale pink shade. In spring, the branches fill with lilac blooms and florists sell them (they come in late spring). Sadly, these flowers start to whither instantly off the branch. Lilac plants are small trees or shrubs that grow wild in many places.

Gardenia

Gardenia flowers are white while their leaves are deep green, creating a sharp contrast for eyes. Their fragrance is very sweet and strong. Gardenia flowers also blossom in blooms, with a fragrance so strong and sweet that will fill your memories for long.

Violet

Violets are tiny wild flowers that come in pink and purple shades. But not all of them smell great. The most fragrant variety comes in pink color that can be hiding somewhere in grass. Whenever you catch the sight of these pink beauties, do not forget to bend and smell them.

Sweet peas

These flowers come with one of the strongest sweet-smelling flowers. The moment you smell them, you will fall in love with them. They come in a variety of colors as white, purple, pin, and maroon (some even come with color combinations). Their smells vary from one color to the other which is sure to keep you interested in them. They do not last long when cut but enjoy them until they last. As they are beautiful, delicate, and sweet smelling just as the name suggests.

thank you so much for sharing them.

I love these flowers as well. DSC00122.JPG Particularly the lilacs. My grandfather planted the lilacs along a half mile of road frontage for my grandmother.

The only one I've ever smelled here in Brazil is the rose

Hi @sameer777, I can imagine the beautiful smell and the feeling of freshness as we breathe that smells while walking among the garden of flowers. All photos here are awesome. I'm really fond of the blue flowers, so exquisite. May I know what's the name? thanks and have a nice day!
