ChillQuill's Favorite Elvis Songs

in #life6 years ago

Growing up, my Dad, @quillfire, would make me listen to "his music," especially songs with particularly beautiful lyrics. Once or twice a week, we would go down to the ice cream shop after school and he'd choose songs on the shop's old time Juke Box. Over the years, I came to love them. In fact, I can now identify Oldies far faster and more accurately than he can. Some of my friends make fun of me because of my love of Old People music but I couldn't care less.

One of my favorite Old Time musicians is Elvis.

Here's my three favorite Elvis songs (in no particular order):

My Way was made famous by Frank Sinatra but I actually like Elvis' version better. The lyrics were written by Paul Anka after hearing a French song called, "Comme D'habitude," in a bar. Anka, Sinatra's friend, believed the song would be perfect for Sinatra and convinced him to perform it.

Suspicious Minds: Notice Elvis' shaking leg, what would become one of his signature moves. When Elvis first started performing, he was so nervous on stage that his legs would quake. And so, to cover up his trembling, he exaggerated the movement in an effort to make it look like he was doing it on purpose. His nerves were amplified when music executives advised him to keep his job as a delivery truck driver ... "Because you can't harmonize."

Always On My Mind. Guys have a way of devastating girls emotionally. When I listen to this, I'm wrecked.

OK, I couldn't leave this one out, so we'll call it a bonus. American Idol used holographic technology to recreate an Elvis performance and then used it to create a "duet" with Celine Deon. Incredible.

Do you agree with my choices or do your prefer other Elvis songs? I'd love to hear from you in the comments section.

@tryskele I'm old enough that I saw most of the Elvis movies in the theater! I particularly remember going with several other of my friends to see Kissin Cousins!
Really cheesy... But it wasn't about the movie, it was about getting to see Elvis and listening to him sing!

Those are all good ones, there are so many! Have you watched the Elvis movies? After all these years I still find them charming

Melinda010100,

Actually, I haven't seen any of his movies. Netflix maybe?

ChillQuill

I looked on Netflix and didn't see any. That should be a category of movies that they should have available for us!

@savagekathryn,

Great choices, Pumpkin. I'm going to listen to all of them right now!

Elvis was a tragic figure and watching his later performances breaks my heart. That "Always On My Mind" video ... arrgh, so sad.

Quill

I have to completely agree 😊I love Suspicious Minds. You have wonderful picks. So many of his songs are just running through my head at the moment.

Tryskele,

I hard to pick just three (or four). :-)

ChillQuill

You made awesome picks. It's hard to limit with an artist like Elvis. I have a hard time picking my 'favorite' anything because it really depends on my mood and I like such a broad variety of things.
I see @melinda010100 below me. I agree if you get the chance try to check out his movies. They were a bit on the cheesy side as compared to movies now, but something tells me you have an appreciation for cheesy LOL.

Actually, Elvis learned his moves from a young boy, called Forest Gump.

Brilliant choices @savagekathryn. The Husband is also a great Elvis fan. As is @jaynie. Perhaps she should get some blue suede boots!

Fionasfavourites,

And use them on my Dad. She'll probably need more than one pair though. :-)
