Temple Stay at Guinsa, Korea - Geumgang University @ 2019 Week
Wow, it's been a long time i put my blog a side 😅and it's time to begin again! 1st of November, we have a chance to experience temple stay for 2days 1night in Guinsa, Korea. It was actually a compulsory program for all the new foreign student who study in Geumgang University and we enjoyed ourselves a lot when being at there.
Once we arrived at Guinsa, we have to walk a uphill road and all of us were so excited at the beginning while being attracted by the scene along the way up to our accommodation. There were an instructor who looked gentle and tranquil then brought us to our rooms and introduced us all the locations of the temple.

According to our instructor, saying that Guinsa is actually a headquarter for more than 100 sub-temples all over Korea and the architecture of the temple was really an eye open experience. But for me, what is more important in this temple stay was the messages delivered by the instructor and the monks or nuns and i will share with you later.

During the temple tour, our instructor told us the life of the monks and nuns here is actually not that easy as we thought. It is because everybody here has a role just like everybody in the world has a reason as he said. To be simplified, the monks and nuns here are only have 2hours free time which is their sleeping time and most of the time they need to do the job being assigned, for example, a cooker or a farmer who have to work from morning to dawn and meditation during certain time in their own way. The instruction told us that it's not a religion but is a way in learning how to live happier in our life. No matter what religion your are, your are always welcome to learn the knowledge from the Buddha.

After the temple tour, we were invited to join hiking program and i was so excited because i like exercise a lot. During the temple tour was actually all uphill road and all of us exhausted but still we were hiking to the top of the hill! Only half of us reached the top of the hill and we enjoyed a lot of the stunning sunset view 😍while gasp for breath. For me, there were OK during uphill but my knee was pain during downhill, may it is a sign of getting old? 👵haha.
Step by step~ there are lots of beatiful view are waiting for u😉

Before our dinner time, we have to join an evening ceremony but for those think that is a religion matter was no force to join as our instructor emphasize that it's free time for your heart so just follow your heart. We gathered in the Buddha hall where the monks and nuns do learning and showing respect to the Buddha. Same goes to us, we learned how to bow to show our respect to the Buddha. For me, during the ceremony, seems brought our mind to peace and remove all turbulence inside your heart and your mind while there are some background of the sound of the monks.
All the meals being served are vegetables and those food were all hard work of the monks and nuns, therefore, no food waste during every meals. I think it was an important message also to all the people where we should finish every meals that we had as to appreciate what you had and what given by the surrounding.

After an hour rest, we proceed to another hall and having meditation together. During the meditation time, what i received from the instructor is built your inner strength by doing meditation. And there were a nun who keep smiling all the way and teaching us the way to breath. She said that most of the time people focus on something which they think is important but they forget how to breath and focus in some small things that will bring us happiness as well in our live.
Time for meditation exercise~
The whole process was peaceful and funnier than what i thought about meditation. We breath profoundly, slowly and sit with crossed-leg like the Buddha's way on the floor which was uncomfortable. Well, our instructor said that, always sit with crossed-leg on the floor and it will heal your spine although was uncomfortable. During the process what they focus was want us try to liberating our soul and mind; get into profoundly of ourselves. And always imagine we are in a perfect condition and focus on what you want. All these linked me to Einstein said, imagination is important than your knowledge. Where imagination is infinity in our life and the nun told us kick all our memory during meditation and glory of your imagination that one of the knowledge of Buddha. Sounds evangelistic but i think that was a spiritual self learning process which enhance ourselves to control our emotion and not controlled by emotion.
The section end on 9:30pm and the next morning 3:30am we gathered at the Buddha hall again for morning ceremony. The instructor told us it's up to us to join or not to join the morning ceremony and i was struggle whether to join or not the night before because there are some distances from our accommodation. At the end only 7 of us joined the morning ceremony including our instructor and me. The different of morning ceremony and evening ceremony was we have to walk around the temple and spent longer time in the Buddha hall and it was a refreshing morning!
The morning ceremony is one hour, of course we get back to our bed😴😴😴. After breakfast at 630am, we took bus to another temple to have a visit and to do walking meditation. We walked as what the nun taught us during the night before, "heel to toe and continue to breath, heel to oe and continue to breath" was what in our mind. Then we backed to our Guinsa again and this time there were a monk with the nun having teatime. During the teatime, they talked about a lot about life. During the conversation, that i interested and believe is KARMA. Which what we had now is because of what we had did in our past life or our previous live and what is the next is depending on what we do now. And they encourage us to do more good things or helping other that based on our conscience. Hopefully whoever see this will apply it in our daily life so that we can have a better worlbtw
And that's all that i learnt from the trip and i hope is is beneficial to you as well! Be kind and keep breathing! you are doing good~ Thank you.
