Daily Drinking Episode 001
I was talking to @giftedgaia the other day about finding your niche here on Steemit. It can be difficult to set yourself apart from the schools of minnows, and I feel like finding something that you're passionate about can be the best way to do this.
Well, I am passionate about beer. Not so much the brewing it, but more so the drinking it. So, without further ado, here goes me typing stuff about beer that I am drinking/have drank recently.
I trade beer with a lot of people and belong to groups that mule beer for other people (to mule beer is to purchase it for someone else), so I'm fortunate enough to drink great craft beer from a myriad of breweries across the US. I hope to offer up some insight into craft beer for anyone that is interested, and I encourage you to comment about both how much you enjoy beer, as well as how shitty my opinions are and how I have a terrible palette.
The beer I'm drinking tonight is from Veil Brewing Co. in Richmond, VA. They are known for their hoppy offerings, IPA's and such. This beer is called Toof Ache and it's a 6'ish% IPA with Mosaic, Simcoe, and Columbus. It says in the description they used orange juice in the boil to soften the beer, and that it doesn't affect the flavor. Well we shall see about that Veil Brewing Co.
Toof ache pours a nice golden straw color with decent head. Smells grassy with maybe some onion in there. It's lost me on the palette though, as it comes through with an astringency that is off putting. I feel like the OJ did help to round out the corners, so to speak, but it's an interesting trio of hops to use, and I think the Mosaic gets lost in the mix.
It's always weird to talk about beer because it can be so subjective. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely "off" flavors in beer that can happen from the brew process, bottling, etc., but basically everyone can be right and wrong all at the same time when talking about their experience drinking beer.
Anywho, that's all for the first episode of DD. I hope you learned something, and if not, then maybe this post has at least encouraged you to drink more
Why do so many breweries still use clear bottles? Light can do immense damage to beer. Brown bottles are so much better.
I wonder the same thing myself all the time...sitting on shelves in clear containers in the light, cooled or not, is not doing any favors to the beer
When I was drinking, Polestar was my absolute favorite. I love a good pilsner, and it has to be absolutely as cold as possible. I tried to do the room temp brews, and wines even, and there is nothing satisfying to me about a room temp beverage. Give me that ice cold ice.
Sadly, I do not partake anymore, at least not like I used to, not like what gave me the term shaywasted! Too many effects on my medications and that makes for an interesting, if not violent, night. No bueno.
I DID have a singular beer the other night after 3 months of nothing, it was brewed with hibiscus? Can't remember the name, but I drank it at lindbergs and it was SUPERB. The three month stretch really cleansed my pallet and I was able to appreciate something I would not have liked originally. So, I guess I'm just going to go on long stretches so I can truly appreciate the taste of each one. Or something like that...
I tend to prefer beers that are less bitter, less hops. My current beer of choice at this time is an "off the shelf" beer, LaBatt Blue.
You can't go wrong with a classic like LaBatt!
My uncle no longer drinks alcoholic beer just due to the fact that the mind/mood altering effect is not desirable to him anymore. He now drinks O'doul's claiming its the only good non-alcoholic beer. Is there any craft beers out there boasting a good non-alcoholic?
There's not really much in the way of non-alcoholic craft beer. I might recommend Kaliber, which is a NA beer made by Guinness, as an option.
That interesting I didn't know Guinness made an NA beer. I figured there was a scene for the NA beers somewhere.
