In this busy world where most people are very health conscious, it is not strange to see people take a few vitamin pills with their morning cup of coffee. It now seems that this might be a meaningless exercise.

Researchers mean that taking your vitamin supplements with your morning coffee or tea can kill all their health benefits. The heat of the coffee or tea can minimize the effect of the pills a lot, it even kills the ''friendly bacteria in probiotics''.

In a study done by the University of East Anglia in England they found that warm drinks and food like hot porridge can lower the absorption of iron with up to 73%. Up to 63% of British adults take vitamin supplements daily and 70% of them take it with their breakfast. The knowledgeable people now suggest you wait one hour after drinking your vitamins before eating your breakfast or consuming warm drinks.

Drinking coffee can lower your iron absorption with up to 80% if you take it less than a hour before eating or drinking. A lot of warm drinks can also make certain vitamins inactive or kill living probiotic bacteria. To make sure this bacteria live a professor of microbiology suggest you take your vitamins with milk or water. To take your pills before breakfast is still the best time because your intestines had a resting period through the night and will therefore absorb the vitamins better.

Researchers at the University of Turku in Finland emfesized how important it is to take probiotics when you start a course of antibiotics, they also suggest you keep taking it a week after you finish your course.

Thank you sergey44 I appreciate your comment.

I agree about the vitamins. I can't take vitamins on an empty stomach. Upvote. cheers.

Very interesting info, I love coffee!!

Me too we can have it just not with our vitamins, thank you for your comment :-)

Interesting. I thought it was the acid in coffee or some other factor, not the heat, hindering absorption

Yes I also thought it would be something else so I was also surprised. Thank you for your comment.

I wonder if it's the same for tea also?

Yes they say it is because of the heat.
