What the New Year Really Means
I wish I could give you all gifts for New Year's but since I can't, I'll share a conversation I was having with some of my closest friends. We were conversing on what a New Year's celebration in modern society really means. How some are lost in an idea that isn't quite accurate and we conversed well into the night about if humanity will ever "wake up" from this strange slumber.
For most people in the world, New Year's is a celebration of a time where they feel happy about time moving forward as if they're counting to something. In actuality, it's a countdown of the time you have to complete the life goals that you signed up for before arriving in this biological avatar. It should be a reminder that your time is borrowed and you can't remember the amount you borrowed. With each passing New Year's, there should be an extreme urgency in completing your life goals not just seeing how drunk we can all get.
Now hear me out. I'm not saying go against all the celebrations and disregard all the screaming drunk people having fun. What I am saying is that if the world is to get any better, we have to actually change it starting with... well, us. This starts with awareness. Waking up is easier said than done and that's why some result to name calling like "sheeple" and "sleeple." It's because some people don't realize they're "asleep."
As I type this, most of the people in the city you're in, are already planning how they're going to get drunk with the intoxication of their choice. Most of us can't get out of these engagements without hurting a few feelings and breaking a few traditions. Including me. What I am saying though is while everyone is doing their New Year's resolution like "quit smoking cigarettes," you should be aware of the point we're discussing. That point is, "my borrowed time just became less."
Some True Time Facts About Your Life
Every New Year's just remember this section of what we're discussing. You ready? This may be mind-blowing if you've never done the numbers on your own life. Let's say you, meaning you-you, live to be 80 years old. This is actually quite a stretch though not impossible if you drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes and never exercise or meditate.
On your 80th birthday, you would have lived roughly 29,200 days or 700,800 hours. If we averaged out your sleep cycles throughout your lifetime to 6 hours per day, you would have slept 175,200 hours or 7300 days. Your awake time would be 525,600 hours or 21,900 days. Now here's the tricky part.
In the New York Times article "How Much Do We Love TV?," it says the total amount of time-consuming media for an average U.S. American is over 10 hours per day. This is an all-around estimate of T.V., tablets, smartphones & so on.
This figure is 292,000 hours or 12,167 days. When you crunch these numbers with your sleep cycle numbers, they add up to a whopping 19,467 days or 467,208 hours. Which technically leaves you only 9,733 days or 233,600 hours of productivity time to complete your life's goal. Can that figure be correct?
That's quite disappointing if correctly close because that would mean you would have only used roughly 27 years of your 80 years on the Earth grid to be productive. OK let's not refer to you "you" anymore but back to "you" in general. This is the average person in the United States so adjust the similar figures according to your country's culture but I'm sure they won't be too far off from each other.
We are controlled by systems that now have control of our minds with smartphones and the internet reaches everywhere. I hope this conversation we had puts some urgency in your decision making for 2019. Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today because tomorrow may never come. I support everything you do and I believe in your greatness. Perhaps it's time to organize our time a little more to be a little more productive as a society before our lives flash before our eyes.
I wish you all a very happy and splendid 2019 New Year's surrounded by all that you love. Please don't drink and drive because that's a major risk in making that productivity time even shorter. I hope this year instead of making a pointless New Year's resolution that you rather dedicate all of January to find your passions and life's purpose. This article called "10 Life Purpose Tips to Help You Find Your Passion" by Jack Canfield may help. Then dedicate the rest of your life perfecting that craft to become a positive asset to society and most importantly, completing your life goals.
Happy New Year's 2019 Steemit. I love you all and be great for each other.

i leave my phone in a car always, and use it as little as possible. Maybe once in a while when out and i get to an appointment early. The smartphones are so hot right now because people are lonely. Its an easy way to stay connected to others w out having to feel vulnerable. Yet in many ways a good bit of depth can expressed too.. we love sitting in that place listening to our whisper and txting it out.
That's a good one. I believe it's a bit of an addiction and a bit habitual so I also try to keep smartphones from my meals. I only take it out to capture images of everyone else on their smartphones so I can show my kids what they look like. That loneliness is also a crazy one if we think in terms of screentime. People are not really enjoying each other's physical companionship or friendship while looking at each other through a screen. Crazy to think about. Have a great new year.
I was once in a jify lube watching 7 guys all on their phones. Good lordy, they could be networking or meeting new friends. what have we come to. I wrote a song once about this and called it zombies. I played it for a friend at a gig i was doing, when i looked up to see her in the back of the crowd. She was pacing and txting not even hearing me sing... zombies aombies are everywhere, watch me pass them in my underwear... la la la la..

Nice New Years article with a lot of home truths in it! I feel that in this current day and age new year’s resolutions are changing to suit the times. I believe that people should be making more resolutions to improve the world we live in for others and particularly for future generations. So resolutions like recycling and composting rather than throwing everything in the same bin is a good start. I am house sitting for a family member for the next 10 days with several teenage gamers in the house. I have been making them put their soda cans into a recycling bag and their scrap food into the compost bin, which are new activities for them, even though they were born into a world already polluted by the bad habits of their parent’s generation. They seemed to have little concern for this until I brought it to their attention and showed them that this small change in their lives can make a big difference if they spread the word about it to all their online friends chat channels. After all this is the world their children will be growing up in.
Happy New Year 2019
