I remember the first time I spent a christmas away from family, even though with my travelling and working in Countries devestated by Wart and have missed many christmasses with family the first time is still vivid in my family it was a tough and emotional time
It'll get better eventually, i've always had the idea that first times are the toughest.
Yes indeed the first is always the worst it does get easier trust me from experience
