74 people die in plague in Madagascar
The number of deaths from the plague epidemic in the African country of Madagascar has risen to 74.
In a statement made by the Madagascar Ministry of Health, 74 people lost their lives because of the plague epidemic that lasted for two months. The city where the epidemic is most prevalent is said to be the capital city of Antananarivo, 805 thousand people were reported to be found in the plague. Due to the epidemic, the schools in the country were closed by the Ministry of Education.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has supplied 1.2 million doses of antibiotics that are vital to fighting the disease.
Since 1980, there has been a plague epidemic in Madagascar every month between September and April. Officials say the epidemic originated from mice that escaped from forest fires.
Plague disease, high fever, fatigue and cough are emerging with such symptoms.
