CLEANING TIPS FOR PEOPLE WITH PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS

in #life7 years ago

Needing to clean your house when you have physical limitations are a struggle that many have. No one likes to have a dirty house. I have some cleaning tips that may help if you suffer from a physical limitation. First rule of house cleaning begins with pacing yourself. Instead of a dedicated chore day, clean just one room a day. If you do everything in one day, you’ll end up overexerting yourself.

Focus on heavy-traffic areas. You may need to vacuum only the pathway from the kitchen to the doorway to help spruce up the place.

Let cleaning solutions work for you. Once you apply a cleaning solution, let it attack the grime for a few minutes, then come back to wipe up. You won’t have to scrub as hard.

Strategically store cleaning supplies. In a large house, stash a complete set of cleaning supplies in different areas of the house– including separate lightweight vacuum cleaners. That way, you don’t have to carry heavy equipment up and down the stairs.

If you have the energy try to clean messes when they’re fresh. Waiting until a stain sets or clutter builds up ultimately results in more work. Keep a canister of cleaning wipes near the sink for quick cleanups.

Make your bed. To make making your bed easier, use a large, lightweight bedspread or comforter that can be slipped easily over your sheets. Just smooth your sheets and throw the comforter over them. Tip for tucking. When making your bed, use a wooden pizza paddle to help you tuck in sheets and blankets.

When cleaning house, give up that hard-to-grip dust rag. Instead, wear an old pair of gloves or socks on your hands for dusting.

Equip yourself properly. If squeezing a spray bottle or lugging a heavy bottle of laundry detergent is tough, look for easy-to-handle packaging. Concentrated laundry detergents come in smaller, lighter bottles but contain enough product to clean the same number of loads. For scrubbing, simple cleaning tools, such as microfiber cloths and gloves, or Mr. Clean Magic Eraser remove dirt beautifully with just a little water and minimal muscle.

Here are a few more tips and tricks:
Scrubbing Bubbles: They work great as a way to scrub the kitchen floor with no bending.
To Dust Mini Blinds: Take a drier sheet and dust them. It works well, and it's easy.
Dusting TV’s and Electronics: Use a dryer sheet here too! It works great
To Clean the Bath Tub: Buy an extra toilet brush. So much easier!
Vacuuming & Sweeping: Do it in sections and rest in between.
Dishes: Soak or rinse them right after use. It makes cleaning easier.
Laundry: Get a rolling laundry basket! (They're a bit pricy but well worth it.) Use a dish liquid bottle for your detergent for easy pouring.
Windows: Use a coffee filter! They leave no streaks.

Here are some tips for odors around the house:

Smelly Trash Can-Pour distilled white vinegar into the garbage can. Use 2 to 3 cups of white vinegar and fill the rest of the garbage can with hot water. Let the vinegar and water solution soak inside the garbage can for an hour.

Bad Microwave Smells -Put a few drops of vanilla extract (or essential oils) in a microwave safe bowl and heat in the microwave for a few minutes or until it boils. Or, use any kind of citrus peel in a bowl of water.

Skunk Spray Odor -You can use bleach to clean skunk spray and odor from outdoor structures. Use a mixture of 10% bleach and 90% water to clean sprayed areas that aren't in danger in staining from the bleach.

Getting Rid of Cooking Odors -Put a small bowl of household vinegar next to where you were cooking. The vinegar will neutralize the source of the odor while the fragrance sprays will cover it up!

I believe I covered some of the major areas for cleaning. Do you have any physical limitations? Do you have any tips or tricks to make it easier? Please let me know in the comments.
