Forever Young, I want to be...?

in #life7 years ago

This recent story, from 8 August 2017, about a chip "that can generate any cell type of interest for treatment within the patient’s own body" (see more here) made me think of another story blogged about a while back , that we are surely on the way to seeing drastically longer life expectancies.
The older article (included at the bottom of this post) raises some very interesting points about changing life expectancy, with one (admittedly self-taught) biologist there making a rather wild estimate that people could live as long as 5,000 years and then this quote:
“A 2011 survey found that while 65 per cent of Australians supported research that would slow ageing, only 35 per cent said they would use a life-extension technology if one became available. Nearly half of those polled (47.8 per cent) believed that developing life-extension technology would do more harm than good to society overall.”

Does this reaction indicate collective unconscious wariness with regards to this well-known narrative below?
Genesis, with Aramaic and English translation of the original Hebrew:
2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying: 'Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat;

2:17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.'

What about other ramifications such as changing retirement age, pensions and population? Plenty of food for thought here in this space.

P.S. to the article, I found Ellen Langer's 1979 study of particular interest. In this study she got a group of people (in their late 70s to early 80s) to live like they were living in 1959 for a week, this included having music, movies and books/magazines from the era, and the findings from this study demonstrated that many health related issues related to ageing started to reverse! e.g. improved flexibility, diminished arthritis, improvement in weight and even intelligence.

I look forward to when it becomes practicable.

samesies!:)

this type of tech to me, is the tree of life that God is allowing us to eat from
