Once Upon A Time-There Would Be A Child

Once upon a time, there will come a time
When our children will ask what stars are.
Because the sky twinkles will be replaced by satellites.
Wind will be replaced by the rushing of airplanes
And rustle by the subtle whisper of trains running to work.
They will ask what Shakespeare was talking about
There will come a time when our children will ask what communication is
People will be replaced by clicks
Speaking, by keyboards
Connection, by Wi-Fi
Then they would ask what Michelangelo was trying to do
There will come a time when music will be a combination of notifications and apple ringtones
Where people not speaking will speak more volumes than people speaking
When the sound of family walking away from them sounds like good pop
Then they would ask what Achebe was being poetic about
There will come a time when wisdom will be replaced by punch lines
Punch lines expected to just punch rhymes in their faces
Words that sound rhythmically and politically correct
They will ask who Solomon was
There will come a time when love will be words
Where an emoji meant commitment
Where a tick of the clock means forever
Where a gift means a bond
They will not see the point of Roses and wine
But before the children start asking questions,
I advise you to put your phone down
