What do people need for a comfortable and comfortable life? Much money? A big apartment or a house? Spacious living room, kitchen, several bedrooms?
Jeff Wilson, a professor of ecology at the University of Texas, believes that all this is not necessary. His point of view, the professor decided to back up with a very unusual experiment.

A few years ago, Wilson lived in a large house with an area of 230 square meters. M. But, having survived the divorce, I decided to move to a rented apartment 5 times less than the previous one. Even then, the professor began to nurture his plan to move to live in a garbage container.

When the rental period of the apartment was coming to an end, Wilson began selling all his belongings, leaving only a small suitcase with clothes. After that, he was still 7 months huddled on the floor of his office, preparing for the experiment. According to his conditions, he had to live in a garbage can with an area of 3 square meters. M the whole year. And no, he did not go crazy.

In 2014, Jeff moved to his new home, which clearly could not be called a comfortable place to live. The first 6 months he did not make any changes and slept on cardboard boxes, which he laid out on the bottom of the container to understand what amenities he really needed.

First of all, the professor installed an air conditioner - in the afternoon the container could be heated to 55 ° C, which turned it into a real oven. The next step was to install a false floor with built-in drawers for things and paint the walls in white. Gradually the container became more comfortable.

Jeff gradually began to furnish his little dwelling. He put bright carpets and told tapestries. Using a small mattress with pillows made a cozy bed. He hung a "dream catcher" and other cute little things.

Now it's hard to believe that this is really a simple garbage can, because it has everything you need, including electricity, a toilet and a small tile for cooking.

Of course, the Texas professor does not call us all to settle in the garbage cans. With the help of his unusual project, Jeff wanted to demonstrate that it is possible to take up less space, save water, energy and at the same time leave a minimal amount of waste.

And most importantly, our happiness and comfort depend only on ourselves, and not on the conditions in which we ended up.
