About bicycle paths, good ideas, and what happened in the end.
This summer in St. Petersburg, every cyclist knew - soon there will be bike paths. And, when they all appeared, as a true cyclist, I rushed to check them out.
I rolled on the closest and new to me bike paths that were on the Krestovsky Island. In such a wonderful place for bohemia, I expected to see something more grandiose than a path that is a meter in width, which crosses the 4 (!) unregulated (!!!) intersection. For more experienced cyclists, this, of course, is not a problem, but near that there is a huge park nearby, the number of experienced cyclists is considerably less than the number of people who do not yet know how to switch speeds. Of course, the positive side of such tracks is that on them you will not meet a pedestrian. I thought before I saw a girl standing with her feet on a gyroscope and holding a stroller with a baby, while driving on a bicycle path.
But, there are really negative aspects of this phenomenon, like the bike paths in our city. By laying new bike trails along the Fontanka embankment, the mayors reduced the number of parking spaces for 150 to 200 cars, which now have to occupy parking spaces for the residents of nearby houses, although there were enough room for cyclists.
