The few remaining Sears Canada stores closed their doors for good on Sunday.
A longtime anchor of Canada’s Malls declared bankruptcy last year. This weekend it closed its doors for the last time, leaving 15,000 people out of work.
Who will be next to fall?
Challenges mount at Hudson’s Bay as losses almost double. 'They are now way behind Amazon and Walmart'
The country’s oldest retailer disappointed investors by nearly doubling its third-quarter losses. HBC tied the quarterly weakness to lower customer traffic.
That is a real struggle in the era of traditional bricks and mortar retailers competing with Amazon and Walmart.
Goodbye Sears - I will miss you but there is always Macy’s and stuff
thanks for the comment @theessential. There is a growing trend that people are shifting more to buying online and that is hurting the old brick and mortar stores that don't adapt to the changes fast enough.
I agree--the brick and mortar model is quickly dying...NO need for all of that overheard when we can just store product in a warehouse and fulfill orders all day.
the ease of access to the internet is a big game changer. I shop more and more on line.
yep, kinda sad on one hand to see all the stores go....but on the other hand...businesses must adapt or die. :) hence Sears.
Sears!
Say to Goodbye, miss the sale store closing there ...
Sad to see it go. thanks for the comment @suhaily
who even knew Sears was still around?? :)
thanks for the comments and for the upvote @johngabriel, much appreciated
It's hard to think that a company that once was a go to could fall so far. We actually picked up the Sears Wish Book this year as a big deal was made about them rolling it back out. What a joke! There was maybe 4 pages of toys...seriously a Christmas/Holiday Wish Book and only a few pages of toys. They are out of touch with their consumer.
They have more floor space dedicated to about 8 mattresses then the entire toy department. We actually stopped in there too. Call it sentimental reasons as we used to shop there a lot when I was a kid.
Sad to see so many closing (in the US too) but they really don't deserve to stay open.
yes, the Sears Wish Book was a highlight of pre-Christmas time for me as a kid. That and Eaton's were the places to go for Christmas toy gazing.
Shelves and shelves and shelves of toys and Santa.
Anyone Canadians who remember Eaton's Christmas comics and Pumpkinhead?
