New Snapchat Update Raises Safety Concerns

There is much controversy surrounding the latest Snapchat map update, as many believe it is a violation of privacy.
The new update allows users to pinch the screen to "zoom out" into a map highlighting the location of Snapchat friends. You are able to opt-out of this new update by enabling "ghost mode" in the map settings.

This update may be an issue due to the fact that it give potential predators or theifs a way to pinpoint their victims location. The map displays your location with a scary amount of accuracy, making it possible for anyone on your friends list to view where you live, or exactly where you're located.

A simple way to enjoy the new feature without worrying about the wrong people tracking you, is to make sure you enable it so only certain friends on your friend list can view your location.

However, the general idea of 24/7 broadcasting your exact location isn't exactly advisable. I would personally recommend only using this feature in situations where a group of friends needs to find each other (vacation, hiking, etc...).
