A long time ago, one of my spiritual teachers remarked that if we don't like/love ourselves, how can we possibly expect someone else to like/love us.
I think a lot of people get misled by the "love yourself" saying by thinking that it's self-love in the narcissistic, self-important way, which it is not at ALL.
