Really stunning!
Did you know that when caterpillars enter the pupa stage they actually dissolve their entire bodies into a liquid and rebuild themselves completely from scratch? For some reason I've always found that fact overwhelmingly fascinating.
Actually no, I didn't know. I just figured they morph or smth...had no idea they go liquid. The conservatory also had hanged pupas in different stages, so you could also watch how they "hatch". It was great to watch.
Not to mention they remember stuff from their life as a caterpillar. Unfortunately they did this by causing them pain whenever a certain sound/scent was released. And when that sound/scent (i can't remember which it was) was given to the caterpillars that had now transformed to butterflies, the butterflies freaked out.
Dude they turn themselves into goop, turn into these magnificent winged marvels and they remember.... all of it. Weirds me out.
