Embrace Your Mess!

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Most of us are soaked deep in self-blame and inner criticism in everything we do...busy comparing ourselves to others and seeing all the ways in which we fall short...always thinking that tomorrow will be better than today.

A study was done where 50 people were gathered in a room. They each described themselves to a sketch artist. When all sketches were done, they were paired up and told to be friendly to each other and learn new things about each other. When they were done, each was told to describe the person they were paired up with to the sketch artist. When the research was done on the sketches, it was found that the sketch made by the description of the other person they were paired with was more beautiful than their own description of themselves!

Let us set aside time every morning to look at ourselves in the mirror appreciate the fact that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image and likeness of God.

You had me at the first sentence. Great post

Ah I love the experiment story! It's so true. I do improv theater and the one constant that becomes so obvious is that your scene partner is always borderline "brilliant" but you were borderline "shit" lol. Then you ask your partner and they say the same thing "you were brilliant! I was shit!" That right there has made me question those judgements, and I now try to discast them unless they are constructive or affirming :)

Thank you for sharing @zippykimani! I'd love to hear your thoughts on my recent post: This Is How My Unsettling New Year's Situation Set Me Free

So well-written! Glad I bumped into this inspirational post this morning 😄

Self blame and self pity leads us nowhere. Also social media doesn't make it easy with the comparison. Great post.

I love this part
