I'm trying to leave a mark...

Remember the patient I posted about? The one with Parkinsons. Well I managed to finish her case. She was above 60 years of age, had Parkinsons and had to leave for Umrah this week.

I tried my best to finish her case in as less time as possible and I finally did it. She used to visit me in the Prosthodontics OPD on a wheelchair with her son carrying her everytime. I remember on her every visit I used to help her son life the wheelchair into the OPD as the entrance had a little elevation on the front door.

Whilst I used to work on her, her son used to silently sit in the corner sometimes trying to calm his mother down, who couldn't speak and used to panic sometimes. I hope he's rewarded for his behavior with his mother. I am sure he will be. I have hardly seen such obedience in my life.

It was like a routine. I felt bad but I had to call her again and again for a routine checkup and for trials. Her son, without questioning my decisions even for a second used to bring her to me on time.

Sometimes I felt bad for her helplessness. She has the most innocent of faces and on top of that she couldn't even complain. Couldn't speak and had limited hearing acces as well. So, basically her son was her hands, tongue, and ears

Did I mention she had to leave for Umrah? Umrah is the holiest of holy pilgrimages as a Muslim where you make a pilgrimage to Makkah, Saudi Arabia. I was lucky to have been assigned a patient who was supposed to leave for Umrah because I could have asked her to pray for me once she reaches there.

Finally I finished her case, set up teeth in her mouth and got a lot of prayers from her. She left for Umrah after 2 days of teeth insertion.

Working as a dentist in the public sector has given me more moments of joy than I can count. Sure, I'm underpaid, its hectic, shit loads if politics but atleast I sleep easy at night making sure I've made a difference. Even if it's a small difference. :')
