Healthy lifestyle #1: Could you discard procrastination and welcome discipline?

Well....well...well..., I was supposed to put this post up some days back, but due to procrastination and my busy schedule I couldn't.
So I am guilty as charged in this post 😃. And this is me advising myself on a post, you can also learn from here too...
All humans are prone to procrastination, what makes the difference is the way one manages and maintain discipline.
Procrastination is the habit of delaying, postponing activities till the last minute while discipline is the ability to make oneself do what should be done at the right time.
I wouldn't say, I am 40% guilty of Procrastination, maybe I am just 18%, because everyday of my life, I have always worked so hard to stick to my itinerary.
Maybe I'm a perfectionist( the positive type) if there is any thing like that.😉
And that's why, in this article - based on my true life experiences, I would outline some causes, disadvantages and possible ways of overcoming procrastination and being able to control oneself will be put into consideration. Trust me, this information would be useful to curators on STEEM and those willing to live a heathy lifestyle generally.
What are the causes of Procrastination?
- Confusion and vagueness.
- Perfectionism
- Lack of time management skills
- Inability to set goals and split a tasks into smaller chunks.
- Inability to prioritize actions.
The bad sides of Procrastination
- Missed Deadlines
- Limited Skill Development
- Damaged Reputation
- Increased Stress
Here are Practical Ways of overcoming Procrastination:
🎗 Understanding a project or task : Gaining clarity on an action is a great way of overcoming procrastination, deciding on what to do, writing it down, setting deadlines and splitting the action into smaller tasks will bring a good clarity and it helps one to control oneself to complete a task.
🎗 Preparation: Planning ahead of a particular task increases one's productivity. Create an action plan list or what I would like to call - "a roadmap" As a person work steadily through the lists, it brings a sense of positive forward momentum that enables one to overcome procrastination. This feeling of progress gives one more energy and keeps the person going throughout the task.
🎗 Splitting a task into smaller tasks: A major reason for procrastinating on important tasks is that they appear so large and formidable when it is approached at first.
Outline the tasks in details and consider taking it one after another. It might also be interesting to even break them into smaller manageable chunks, this is what I do.
🎗 Avoid unnecessary distraction on social media and the wrong use of technology: Resist the urge of always scrolling endlessly on the internet without an aim. I have left this bad practice a very long time ago and I'm proud of myself.
However, you can maximize technology by using productivity apps, extensions and tools. How about writing some useful tips or blogs on STEEM blockchain..? This is one of the best way to use social media.
🎗 Practice strategic procrastination: It would be interesting you to know that practicing how to intentionally delay low-priority tasks(tasks that are not importantat the moment), will allow you to focus on high-value activities that truly counts.
Furthermore, application of the Swiss cheese and Pomodoro method which is a way of making oneself perform a task without procrastination.
You "swiss cheese" a task when you resolve to work for a specific time period on a task.
You could use 5 or 10 minutes to achieve this in most cases, after which you could stop and do another task.
In Pomodoro method, you can perform a specific task for about 30-45minutes, take a break of 10 minutes and keep performing the task until it is completed.
To Maintain discipline, you and I needs to:
🔷 Pracractice mindfulness: Always concentrate on the present moment and avoid losing focus.
Adopt a Growth mindset, embrace challenges as learning opportunities.
Also, developing a routine of activities and being persistent with them until they become lifestyle is a way of controlling oneself to overcome procrastination.
🔷 Consider accountability: Surrounding oneself with positive and supportive individuals is important in overcoming procrastination too. Avoid those bloody gossipers, fraudsters and hypocrites who will soon face their dooms day- they can't help you move forward.
In conclusion, practicing this possible ways of overcoming procrastination will help one to be more productive and carryout tasks before deadlines and it will bring good performance and there will be no damaged professional reputation and disruption of team work.
