Local Tourism: Exploring Hinunangan, Southern Leyte
Waazzupp, Steemians!
Hinunangan, Southern Leyte
I would like to share with you the wonders of Southern Leyte for my next posts. First, let us start with Hinunangan, Southern Leyte. Hinunangan is a municipality in Southern Leyte belonging to what they call "The Pacific Towns" simply because these towns face the Pacific Ocean. In fact, these areas are often visited by typhoons. It is home to Southern Leyte State University-College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. It has forty barangays and two pristine islands, the San Pablo and San Pedro Islands. According to the data in Google, in the 2015 census, the town has around thirty thousand people.
Hinunangan has diverse tourist attractions and destinations. If you want to go mountain trekking, which I did with some locals, at the peak of the trek, you will be able to view the area. It has a wide flat surface where you can see the vast coconut and rice fields. The air is s clean that you can have a lungful without hesitation once you are on the peak.

Going down from that peak where you are is another attraction. A cave! But I will share that with you in my next post.
You might be wandering how to get there? Well, if you are from Cebu City like me, from Cebu City you book yourself a boat ride. Boats or ships that go there are in Pier 3 of Cebu. These shipping companies have morning and evening trips. I usually take the evening trip because it is colder and nicer to travel in the evening. The sea travel takes five hours and you will be in Hilongos, Leyte at around 2am. While on the ship, is it best to book for a bus so you don't have to fight your way with chance passengers because they are few buses there. The bus ride takes three hours. You can sleep your way while it is still dark but you can enjoy the green view of rice fields and other vegetation too once the sun is up. You will know that you have reached Hinunangan once the bus stops the longest because it is the last destination or stopover of buses. From the terminal you can visit local restaurants and stay in an inn. Because you'll get there as early as 5am, if you are not tired you can go exploring the place right away.
Stay updated for my next post!
