Today again my drama crew and I presented a play in Kaduna State Nigeria, titled "the quest". Let me briefly highlight the story.

A local miner went mining for gold, he worked all day but made no progress then he started giving up, what seemed a good outing turned sour. " I've been on this search for many days but all I see is bad luck" he said. So tired he turned and began to go home, so disappointed he went.

On his way, he met a tattered looking old man clearing a piece of land in the bush. The old man said; " My son, you look worried, tell me what you need - I can get it for you". The young miner became very angry and aggressive, as if to strangle the old man. He took a stone and threw it at the old man out of annoyance, the old man fell on the ground. The young miner said, " what can a wretched old man like you give me? I don't have time for you".

After some time the old man managed to get up. When he did, he took the stone the young miner threw at him, moulded it and threw it back at the young miner, the stone became gold. The miner opened his mouth in amazement, he ran quickly to get a bigger stone for the old man to turn into gold, but when he came back the old man was gone. He fell on his knees and wept. "How could I be so stupid?" he said.

MORALS OF THE STORY

  • Never see someone and write them off.
  • Never let anger and frustration lead you into doing what will make you regret.
