The Pine Room Tavern's Final Jam

in #lost-cabin7 years ago

🔉 A documentary of the final night in business for the Muddy Boot/Pine Room Tavern under the ownership of the Oblack family, featuring live musical performances by the Flatland Harmony Experiment and The Indiana Boys.

From the standing-room only crowd, we also have many heartfelt personal testimonials from patrons, employees and friends of the Pine Room Tavern, some of whom experiencing their first night there, and some in attendance to say goodbye to a dear old local institution (The Pine Room opened its doors in 1949... 68 years years in business). We often heard words like "home"... "family"... "bittersweet"... and equal parts sadness and happiness to have been so blessed for so many years.

The night, in some ways, was like any other in the Pine Room -- a gathering of the local folks of Brown County, attitudes checked at the door, with the express purpose of hearing live music and enjoying friendships in a comfortable, accommodating space just off the touristy streets of Nashville, Indiana.

But ultimately this night was to be different... it was a final, loving hoorah, and a spectacular sendoff to the family that made it all possible, Betsy and James Oblack, who plan to do a lot of traveling and enjoying their grandkids in the future.

Restaurant/bars come and go every day, of course, but here in Brown County Indiana, the closing of our community watering hole was momentous. Perhaps a new owner will emerge, purchase the business, and the phoenix will rise again (everyone hopes and prays for that). Or perhaps this night will truly be the last night for the venerable old Pine Room. Time will tell.

It is hoped that this documentary (which, apart from the audio being remixed and mastered, is presented essentially unedited, maintaining the chronicity of the event) will serve as a captured moment in the social life of Brown County, and a reminder of how special this famous artist colony truly is.

Filmed by Lost Cabin Lodge producer Jeff Foster, with a special guest appearance by host Frank Jones... and his most talented sock.
