On Being Loved

in #love8 years ago (edited)

It was just an ordinary day, at least for anyone who just passed by our apartment. Another day for those who are working, going to school, or simply rolling on their beds, but not for me. It was the saddest birthday I've ever had.

Moving to another country is a big challenge especially if you don't know the language. I sulked and ate what was in the fridge, waiting for my husband. I don't know anyone in this small city. Birthday greetings from Facebook didn't really mean anything to me.

My husband was late. It is typical for Koreans to work late. Sometimes he goes home at one in the morning so I figured that I would just sleep. Nothing special will happen on my birthday.

My eyes were about to close when I heard the wrong password alert for the door. I waited a few seconds, did not bother to stand up and opened the door  but just let him enter the password again. To my surprise, he brought home a lovely cake paired with red wine and cute confetti! I have never been so happy on my birthdays!
