CHAPTER 11
It was a chilly afternoon; they are getting close to summer. Phillip was in his house, still monitoring the environment. He staged three armed policemen in Janet’s house. He is a very strong man and never afraid of anybody having had experiences of violence which he handled wisely. His father being a magistrate judge had endangered his life severally that he decided to live in a small town in California. Instead of renting, he bought the most beautiful house in that small town.
It’s one week after the cops assured them of capturing Gipson. A call came to his phone. This time, it was his friend, whom he fondly calls “The spymaster.” He informed him of Gipson’s whereabouts. He even told him his new house address and few poorly looking guys that stay with him. Phillip took note of the house address and thanked him. He decided to inform Janet before calling the cops that are going to arrest him. He hurriedly made way to her house, getting to her house she saw a car that packed outside. He was curious then he opened the door.
“Mummy this is Phillips, my new boyfriend. He’s been fighting to make sure Gipson is brought to Justice.” He greeted her. “Phillip this is my mummy, my brother Michael, and Barrister James.” She said pointing at them. Phillip shook them and sat on the sofa. He showed the address where Gipson can be found. He narrated how his friends had staged a security camera. “So everything is in control now, before the day runs out, he will be arrested. We have to call Detective Morris; they have to get him arrested before he suspects that we know where he lives and find another escape route.” He said. Janet smiled, it was as they just removed something heaven from her body. She embraced Phillip.
It’s 7:30 pm, the cops surrounded Gipson’s house, and his friends were armed having heard the cops’ siren. But Gipson cautioned them not to shoot as they came for him. He’s planning another tricked. He knew that if they exchange gunshots with the cops, he will still be captured, so it’s better they settle it in the court and also, being that they are just three, and the cops were about ten. So he gave up and surrendered. One of the cops walked straight and handcuffed him. They stormed into the car and drove off.
Janet with Phillip and his family and the lawyer was sitting on the sofa, waiting to hear the next information. It got to them that Gipson peacefully surrendered himself to the cops.
“This implies that he’s up to something, as a violent man he would have just fought back to escape but he surrendered. I’m going to call my daddy. Get ready Janet; file a statement with your lawyer.” Phillip ordered. “He’s going to accuse you falsely for the man’s death. That guy is a chameleon!”
“I want to call my lawyer!” Gipson said as he was forcefully dragged to the police station. Few hours later his lawyer was contacted, and he arrived at the police station. He filed all the necessary statement to the lawyer. Then the lawyer told him to get ready as he will be in court the next day to face trial.
It’s 7:00 am the next day. Janet with Phillip and her families got prepared as the New York Magistrate court has given their order to be at the court by 11:00 am. Barrister James has assured them that he will be waiting for them at the court.
Few hours later they all arrived at the court. Janet looked with total disdain. The court of justice was filled with lawyers, reporters, jurymen, and spectators attracted by the sensational nature of the case. Amidst the clamour and heated discussion and last minute consultations going on in the court, the Judge enters. Behold, it was Phillip’s father that was the judge.
Order! Order! The usher commanded. Everybody rises until the Judge takes his seat. “Call the first case.” The Judge commanded. “Case No 1 Gipson versus Janet Milton,” said the Registrar. Two policemen lead the accused into the dock and then stand on either side of him; as the registrar reads the charge.
They whole protocols and proceedings were giving to them one after the other.
They all got ready to face trail. Gipson was first to face trial. He narrated what happened the night at the club. He claimed that Janet was depressed having narrated to him that he was going to deal with anyone who was responsible for his father’s death. So getting to notice that he was a little bit tipsy and weary, I offered to drive her home, and then I left the house immediately as I have a visitor waiting for me at the house.
As he made this statement, Janet became infuriated by his lies and propagandizing against her, and she tries to interrupt, but she was called to order.
Barrister James tried Gipson for his clams which he responded appropriately and clearly. Barrister James looked at him suspiciously. Gipson pleaded not guilty to all the charges levied against him. Janet also pleaded not guilty and went ahead to say that everything Gipson had said where all Fabricated lies.
This time, the court demanded witnesses. Gipson being as smart as already had a false witness who would attest on his behalf.
This made Janet cried out. “This man is a killer, propagandist, and a chameleon” The registrar gave turned and gave her a warning look about her attitude. Janet bent her head and started weeping. Phillip from afar signalled her to stop weeping.
To her surprise, another witness stood up from the back. “The Bartender!” Janet said in surprise. She looked at Detective Morris who eyed her, and then she was relieved.
He was led to the dock where he narrated the ordeal. He presented a security video camera that captured when Gipson aimed the gun at a man and then dragged him into the car and took off. This gave Janet even more joy, and couldn’t thank Detective Morris enough for his good will. The court came to the end of the whole proceedings since the witness has based his claims on evidence.
Gipson was sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labour. He was led away from the dock by the police. The families of Janet jubilate for victory. Janet went straight and embraced Phillip they all thanked Detective James for being so smart to have brought the witness.
Janet’s Mum and Michael bid them farewell as they drove to California. “Honey, let’s go and visit Clara”
“Yes, but baby there’s something I really want to ask you.”
Janet nodded and then stopped the car under a tree, expecting him to say what he wants to say. “Can you marry me?” he brought a ring. Janet stood for few minutes, full of surprises. ”can’t believe this is real” she smiled and gave him a passionate kiss and a warm embrace.
