CHAPTER 6

in #love7 years ago

Sometimes morning sun seemed to rise more slowly than others as if Nature wanted to show off her particular majesty just put a bit longer. When she’d gone to bed, Janet had left her shades up knowing that the morning light would awaken her before the travel alarm beside her bed awaken her.

She took the Dawn as a gift to herself, something entirely personal. Standing at the window, she watched it bloom to as if it will act as anti-depression. The first quiet breeze of cold morning drifted through the screen to run over her hair, face, and down to her whole body through the thin material of her nightshirt, cool and promising. As stood, Janet absorbed the colours and the silent thunder of day breaking over water. She has a lot running through her mind; she needs true love and affection with the right man. She prayed for such good things to come her way.
Mornings had been a time to dress and ready for work. Not anymore, things have changed. She slept better she’d expected, lulled by the quiet, exhausted by the days of travelling and the strain on her emotions. There’d been no dreams to haunt her from the time she’d turned back the sheets until the first light had fallen over her face. Then she rose quickly. There’d be no dreams now.

She quickly dressed and started packing her luggage to the car. Breakfast was impossible. She calls out her daughter to wake up and get dressed. She was meticulously excited. The feeling that what she was right was back with her, at least if not for anything, the fact that she can feel the freedom of relieving running through her veins.
From New York to California is just up to two miles drive. Already she has contacted a house agent who assured to give the best services she required. She held her mobile phone and called the house agent informed him about his coming.

After few hours’ drives to California, the sound and chattering of people and some vehicles in the city got Clara’s attention, and she peeped through the windscreen to observe the cold, serene town of California. Some places are sound-dead, beautiful houses surround it, with beautiful trees and flowers that gave the city a pleasant fragrance.

Janet drove down to a white bungalow and then parked his car. She made a call then looked at the building to observe if it’s the right building. A tall looking man, on his 30’s stared at her as if he lost control of himself. At that moment, Janet stared back and looked away. “Hi, are you looking for somebody?” He said. “eemm...m actually I’m new in this city, just called my house agent who said this was the house I rented, so am simply checking my document to know if this is the right house” Janet said and then walk to where her daughter was. “By the way, my name is Phillip. Phillip Stewarts, I work in IT Company, and I live just the next house after yours” He looked directly into her eyes as one who saw an angel coming from heaven. He held out his hand offering to have a handshake. “I’m Janet Milton, a nurse, and veterinarian and here’s my daughter Clara. She’s 11.” She said while received a handshake. “May I?” he held out his hand to receive the document. He quickly glances through the document. “You are at the right place. Welcome to California, is my pleasure meeting you Janet Milton” He smiled and offered to carry their luggage. “Thank you Phillip” she snapped. Clara went ahead of them as she was anxious to know what the house looks like as well as the neighbourhood. She turned left and saw a girl of her age, standing at the next building. She gave her a warm smile.

Meanwhile, Phillip stared at Janet, which almost got her into fidgeting. She’s known for her shy nature, but easy going and loving kind of person. Phillip must be smart enough to see those good qualities and came to the conclusion that she was her kind of woman. He’s trying hard to control his emotions not to scare her away.

Phillip is very Gorgeous, strong, masculine, passionate and every woman’s dreams. He’s gentle in talking and fast in thinking. They finished unpacking the luggage and other equipment from the car. Phillip went close to her and looked at her one more time and said: “Should I help you and arrange your belongings or maybe keeping the house in order?” Janet shrugged and smiled at him as a sign of appreciation. “I will let you know. Thanks for your kindness.” Phillip nodded and bid him goodbye. As he got to the door, he turned back and saw Janet still staring at him while he leaves, she quickly looked away. Then he said, “I will come and see you again if you don’t mind?” “That’s okay, and you are welcome anytime.” She snapped. “Alright thank you” he slowly stormed out.

Clara was busy unpacking his luggage, pretended of not listening to their conversation. He abruptly stops what she was doing and then walked up to her mother. “Mummy when is Uncle Phillip coming again?” she childishly said. Janet smiled at her daughter, held her chins with her two fingers then she shakes her chin. “You won’t stop surprising me daughter. He is just a neighbour and a stranger for that matter.”

“But you can invite him over tonight; I know he will certainly come” she blushed out. “You smart little kid. Keep quiet and start arranging your clothes” she snapped and went to the balcony to see what the house looks like. The fence surrounding the house is very small that one can see the next building or even the whole neighbourhood. Is a new modern house, three bedroom bungalows with a sitting room, a nice toilet and bathroom with water hitter.
Is getting dark, and the cool breeze is already on its way. Janet went to the kitchen and made some diet and natural juice. She brought it to the table and sat down with the daughter. They were so exhausted, the long journey and lots of cleaning, arranging and unpacking. She gulped down the cup of fruit juice and poured another. She stared through the window steadily while eating the diet. They are entering deeper into the winter period and everywhere is becoming cold. She ordered her daughter to lock the all the windows and then she stands up immediately; she tried to on the hitter only to see that the fuse was bad. She tried hard and harder, but she couldn’t confuse and wonder if is wise to call Phillip to see if he can help them fix it, but on second thought, she said no. She has to be much more careful, knowing the feeling well that she’s been accused wrongly.

Immediately she entered her bedroom and wore a winter coat and went outside to see if she can gather some firewood, but everywhere looked sanitized. Only beautiful flowers and grasses surround the house. She turned her back to return toe house, lo and behold here comes Phillip, standing behind him when he said “what are you looking for? Do you need any help?” His unannounced presence startled Janet. “Are you a ghost? Have you been watching my movement?” She hastily uttered. “Oh am sorry if I startled you, I don’t mean to. I had been sitting on the couch in my corridor when I heard a sound here then I decided to come and check on you to be sure you are okay.” He said staring at her with dreamy eyes. “Alright Thanks for checking on us, we are fine.” “So what are you looking for?” He asked. “I’m looking for some firewood the to keep the house warm. As I have tried plugging the hitter to the fuse but it has refused to work” she said walking into the house. “Okay, let me check it out.”

“It looks like one of the wires is disconnected, get me a knife let me fix it up” Clara excitedly ran to the kitchen and hurriedly brought a knife, and then she said, “Uncle I hope you are not going tonight?” Phillip smiled and looked at her and then to Janet, he took the knife from her without uttering a word.
“whoops! Here we go, now you can enjoy the warmest night ever.” He said and went close to Janet and embraced her. “Good night!” He said. “Good night!” Janet replied.
