Research was conducted by researchers from Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University and Columbia Aging Center. As a result, there is a relationship between a strong grip and a higher probability of marriage. The conclusion came after studying 5,000 adults in Tromso City, Norway. According to the researchers, men with strong grips tend to marry, compared with their peers who have weak hand grips.

The study, published in the journal SSM-Population Health, analyzed the grip strength of two groups of people, born between 1923-1935 and 1936-1948 with an age range of 59-71 years. The grip strength of each participant was assessed using a vigorimeter-tool that asked participants to press the rubber balloon. Then, the researchers compared the strength of each participant's grip. As a result, women consider the power of grip as good in marriage. This hypothesis is based on evidence that exposes the number of single men in research with weak grip strength. Vegard Skirbekk, a professor at Columbia Aging Center and lead researcher, says women may prefer couples who signal strength when they get married. In addition to the higher likelihood of getting married, a strong grip is an indicator of a person's ability to be socially and healthy, especially heart health.
According to Harvard University Medical School, grip strength is a useful tool in determining the risk of heart attack or stroke because it shows muscle strength. This method helps to predict the risk of death or cardiovascular disease better than blood pressure. Based on the findings of researchers from the University of Manchester, a strong grip is often a sign of better problem-solving abilities, memory, and response speed.
