5 Mayors of Lublin City

in #lublin6 years ago

Local government elections will take place soon. In these elections we will elect, among others, the mayor of the city. In this episode I will present 5 mayors of the city of Lublin.

Leszek Bobrzyk** - President of Lublin in the years 1991-1994, (born on February 20, 1948 in Lublin), non-partisan.

Doctor of electrical engineering in the field of electrical power protection automatics. Employee of the University of Economics and Innovation in Lublin and director of Invest-Bank in Lublin. Co-author of the book "Laboratory of electrical power protection".

Currently, as a senior he takes part in athletic competitions (disc throwing, as well as jumping away). Medalist of the World and European Championships in the category of veterans.

There is not much to say about his term of office at the moment.

Paweł Bryłowski** - President of Lublin in the years 1994-1998 (born on 29 August 1949 in Lublin),

He graduated in 1971 from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, and subsequently obtained the qualifications of a legal adviser and advocate. He worked in the Lublin Weight Factories, in local and provincial administration (he was, among others, the director in the provincial office in 1990).

In the 1980s, he was active in the democratic opposition, belonged to "Solidarity" and cooperated with the underground publishing movement. In 1989, he represented the Citizens' Committee of the Lublin Region in the elections as a co-chairman of the election commission in the Lublin Voivodeship.

In the early 1990s, he was vice-president, and in the years 1994-1998, president of Lublin. Until 2002, he was a member of the city council. He was a member of ROAD and the Democratic Union. In 1997 he was elected a member of the third term on behalf of the Freedom Union. In 2001 he unsuccessfully applied for re-election.

Since 2005 he has been associated with the Civic Platform, of which he again became a city councillor in 2006. He runs his own law firm in Lublin.
In 2015 he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

The promenade is a symbol associated with Paweł Bryłowski's cadence. But it was then that the renovation of the Old Town started, the exit roads were renovated, and the local government took over education.

Andrzej Pruszkowski** - Mayor of Lublin in 1998-2006, (born on 23 March 1960 in Michów).

He is a graduate of the 3rd General Secondary School of the Lublin Union in Lublin. He then completed sociology at the Catholic University of Lublin and postgraduate studies in labour law at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.

Prior to 1998, he held managerial positions in public administration. In the years 1994-1998 he was the vice-chairman of the Lublin City Council. In the next term of office, he assumed the office of the President of Lublin and maintained him in direct elections in 2002. Four years later, in local government elections, he unsuccessfully applied for re-election, occupying the third place.

During the People's Republic of Poland he was associated with the Polish Catholic and Social Union. On behalf of this organization, he was a candidate for the Sejm of the 10th term. In the 1993 elections, he led the media election campaign of the Coalition for the Republic of Poland in the Lubelskie Voivodeship. He was active in the Solidarity Electoral Action, then he joined the Law and Justice. In 2005 he became a member of Lech Kaczyński's Honorary Support Committee in the presidential election. From 2006 to 2007 he was the chairman of the Lublin Assembly and the director of the local branch of the Agricultural Property Agency. In 2008, he was appointed vice-president of the Nowy Dom Social Construction Society in Lublin. In 2010 and 2014 he was re-elected to the Lublin Assembly. After the elections in 2014, he became the Vice-Chairman of the Lublin Assembly. In March 2017 he was dismissed from this function.

He was also a vice-president of the Union of Polish Cities and vice-president of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR).

Andrzej Pruszkowski's term of office was characterised by a total stagnation in the city's development. There were no new investments.

Adam Wasilewski** - Mayor of Lublin in 2006-2010 (born on 24 October 1949 in Szczebrzeszyn).

He graduated from the Warsaw University of Technology, and then obtained the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences in the field of acoustics. Since 1980 he has been working at the Lublin University of Technology (reaching the position of a senior lecturer). In the years 1994-1999, he was the Vice-Dean of the University, and from 1999 to 2005 its Vice-Rector. He was also an expert in the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

He belonged to the Conservative and People's Party. In 2001, he was among the founders of the Lublin Civic Platform. In the same year, he unsuccessfully applied for the mandate of a senator from the list of the Blok Senate Committee in 2001. He sat in the regional authorities of the PO.

In the local government elections in 2006 he was elected president of Lublin, winning the second round with Izabella Sierakowska and gaining 62.41% of votes. In the local government elections in 2010 he did not apply for re-election (he returned to work at the Lublin University of Technology). After Krzysztof Żuk's resignation, he took over the mandate of a councillor of the Lublin Assembly, which he also maintained in 2014. In 2015 he was registered as a candidate of the Civic Platform for the Sejm.
He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2010).

Adam Wasilewski's term of office is also unpleasantly remembered. Like his predecessor, he became famous for his inactivity and lack of development of the city.

Krzysztof Żuk** - President of Lublin from 2010 to the present day, born on 21 June 1957 in Krasnystaw).

Graduate of the first High School in Świdnik. In 1990 he obtained a doctoral degree in economics (specialization in political economics) at the Maria Curie Skłodowska University in Lublin on the basis of a thesis entitled "Forms of ownership of means of production in the Polish economy and their social and economic functions.

In 1991 he was a candidate for parliament from the KLD list. From 1990 to 1996 he chaired the municipal council in Świdnik. In 1996 he became the director of the Lublin delegation of the Minister of the Treasury. After the local government elections in 2006, he was appointed deputy president of Lublin. A year later, he became undersecretary of state in the Ministry of Treasury.

In 2009, he resigned from the position in the government administration, returning to the position of deputy president of Lublin. On 16 March 2010 he joined the Civic Platform. In the elections of the same year, he was elected President of Lublin, defeating Lech Sprawka in the second round (he received 54.65% of votes). On 13 December of the same year he was sworn in. In 2014 he successfully applied for re-election, winning the first round with 60.13% of the vote. In 2015 he was one of the founders of Bronisław Komorowski's election committee in the presidential election. In November 2016, the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau filed a motion to expire the president's mandate, motivated by the fact that he was a member of the supervisory board of PZU Życie in 2014-2016[6]. In February 2017, the Lublin Voivode expired the mandate of Krzysztof Żuk, who announced the appeal against this decision. In August 2018, he officially announced that he would apply for re-election as President of Lublin and registered his election committee.

Krzysztof Żuk's term of office is very well evaluated. Thanks to him, the construction and commissioning of the Lublin airport in Świdnik began. The city's ring road has also been extended, making it easier to move around the city. The economic zone located in Felin has increased in size and attracted new investors. Currently, both the renovation and expansion works are in progress.
