Honestly, this is the real state of tourism in Macao.
Although Macao is relatively small, the chances of encountering tourist traps are quite high if you don’t plan ahead! I’ve compiled some tips and important information that I hope will be helpful for those about to visit Macao.
💡 Tips to Keep in Mind:
Taxis are quite expensive 🚕: The starting fare for taxis in Macao is 21 MOP, and fares can add up quickly. I recommend making good use of public transportation instead.
Be mindful of tipping 💰: I once took a taxi for 5 kilometers, and it cost me 60 MOP. If the driver assists you with your luggage, it’s customary to tip them extra.
Wear comfortable shoes 👟: While Macao isn’t large, you’ll do a lot of walking. It’s really important to wear comfortable shoes; otherwise, your feet may suffer!
Age restrictions for entertainment venues 🎲: You must be at least 21 years old to enter casinos, and you’ll need to show ID.
No photography in casinos 🎥: Make sure not to take photos or videos inside the casinos to avoid trouble with security.
Don’t forget a power bank 🔋: Charging stations for power banks can be hard to find in Macao, so it’s best to bring your own!
Bus seating etiquette 🚌: The red seats on buses are reserved for the elderly, disabled, and those in need, so try to avoid sitting there.
Other important reminders 🚦: Don’t jaywalk, don’t smoke in non-smoking areas, don’t bring e-cigarettes.
I have won a considerable amount of money in Macau, and it is legal there.
