Most grasshoppers are unrivalled masters of camouflage, using their colouring to blend in with leaves and other surfaces. There are, however, vivid pink grasshoppers. Scientists have no idea how they manage to thrive in the wild.

People do, however, occasionally see brilliant pink grasshoppers. The majority of this information comes from the United Kingdom, and we're always talking about grasshoppers, which are short-winged horse species.

Erythrism, a genetic mutation defined by a violation of the pigmentation of the outer integument in favour of a red, orange, or pinkish tint, causes unusual colouring. This can be caused by an overabundance of red pigment or a lack of black pigment.
