Aphthona is a genus of beetle, in the leaf beetle family Chrysomelidae, native to Europe and Asia. More specifically, Aphthona are flea beetles, which means they have enlarged hind legs for jumping from potential danger. There are about 300 known species worldwide
This genus of flea beetles is important because of the use of several species in controlling leafy spurge, a major invasive weed in parts of western North America. Several species of Aphthona have been taken from Europe and introduced to local areas of the United States and Canada, and some success against weeds is seen.
