We are all meant to shine. Art. Drawing. Magical Moments.
Have I been petrified by my own power?
And if so: How can I shine more light onto this fear? ~Ally.
Drawing has always been my first love. And yet for many a moon now, I haven't drawn. I've asked myself over and over: 'Why aren't you drawing?'
I've journeyed into and loved many other creative fields: Collage, photography and montage, sculpture and for the past four years ephemeral art using natural materials.
All this time I've known in my heart that I needed to be drawing again, but my mind had other plans: Try this. And then this.
And although my mind is still saying: 'Maybe tomorrow' there comes a time when the voice of the heart says a little more earnestly: 'Follow me. Together we will have so many Magical Moments.'
I remember.
'What I want also wants me. Is looking for me. And attracting me.' ~Rumi.
I voice my wants.
I want to see and feel my light shine.
As if, she is shining now for the very first time.
I want the love of the creator to be reflected in my drawing.
To help me draw again.
I will feel the pencil in my hand.
I will breathe in the Spirit of Creativity.
I will play music. Mist the room with Rosemary. Hum to myself.
So that when 'I sit in my own place of patience. What I need flows to me.' ~Rumi.
Introduction to my previous drawings.
As I share these very antiquated drawings, that I drew almost thirty years ago, I can't say what I'm feeling about my need to draw again, any more eloquently than Marianne Williamson.
At the time of drawing these studies of flowers floating on water, I was teaching drawing and watercolour at a Community College in Sydney and curated an exhibition: 'Small is Beautiful' where all the students submitted between 6 to 12 small drawings: Each 90 mms x 150 mms. These three drawings were included in that exhibition. A surprise awaits anyone who can tell me what the flowers are.
What I have in mind and heart to draw now will be different again. Starting with some shells and circles and magic.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. ~Marianne Williamson.
We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. ~Marianne Williamson.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. ~Marianne Williamson.
That first quote of Marianne Williamson has always resonated deeply with me. Your drawings are inspired. Is the flower a Camillia? Forgive me if you have already answered the question...I scrolled through but did not see it.
I tried to upvote but I must be too late. That you so much for posting.
It has been a pleasure to share these images now Samantha. I'm so pleased that you like them AND resonate deeply with Marianne's quote too. Has always been my favourite guiding light.
It's a strange upside down world, when we are afraid to let the light of our 'essence self' be known. It's easier to play out all the roles that life demands of us than to just sit quietly and be in touch with our 'light.'
However I feel that this is changing. Drawing and photography (particularly of nature) can be our vehicles to bring us in touch with our essence and 'Her' love of beauty. And we can then delight in the sharing. Ripples ~ Ripples.
You are the first one to answer correctly. The flowers are camellias. For now you have my full 100% upvote and another little surprise will come via @minnowbooster.
I went to an Australian native orchid display over the weekend and am inspired to draw some of them today. I hope your day is also filled with beauty and inspiration Samantha. 🦋
It is interesting that we are reluctant to let our "essence self" be known...to our own self. So many times others can see it but we cannot (speaking from experience here.)
I feel those ripples of change coming too, friend.
Oh, yay! We had a camellia bush in our backyard...such a beautiful bloom!!! Thank you, again for the surprise. :)
I look forward to seeing the result of your inspiration and I'm so glad we have connected here an on FB!!! You are such a source of light!
Very sensitive and beautiful drawings, and inspiring words. Keep moving forward for yourself and for all your viewers. You are taking ground and establishing something important! Following.
Thank you so much @stonemaiden.
I have found so much truth in the words of people like Marianne Williamson. We can all have our moments of fear and self doubt. But as she says it doesn't really serve a higher purpose to belittle ourselves. Sharing this article was really 'taking ground' ~ Affirming to myself that I can and will draw again. So there's no going back now.
Your work with glass and masks is fascinating. Wonderful to connect with you now.
Yes indeed! I'm looking forward to watching more of your journey!
Wonderful wonderful. .... Beauty surrounds us, but usually we need to be walking in a garden to know it. - Rumi
I'm so pleased you like these drawings Rod.
I love the quote by Rumi too. Yes, it's relatively easy to be aware of the beauty of all that surrounds us when we are in a well cared-for garden, with flowers there at their peak of perfection ~ As these camellias were.
But then to realize beauty is all around us wherever we are, requires a different sort of 'seeing.' Makes me so happy to be an 'artist' ~ To appreciate beauty in unexpected places.
I went to an Australian native orchid display over the weekend and today I hope to draw some of the most interestingly shaped ones. 🦋
very nice drawing, rare tecnique, upvote and follow you!
I invite you to visit my blog, it's also about my art!
Thanks so much @prostosun. The drawing technique I used in these drawings in a very gradual build up of tone, with lines moving in the same direction.
Thanks for the invitation. I will look at your art.
Lotus blossoms? And there are your Marianne quotes!! They go perfectly with your drawings and your messsge. Upped and steemed
I knew I was going to have to use this particular quote at some time, Melinda. And finally, the time was right for it. 🦋
No, not lotus blossoms, but a surprise will be coming to you sometime in the next few days. Truly appreciate your reading, upvoting and resteeming. 🦋
A peony would have been my next guess. I'll be excited to see your surprise!
No, not a peony either Melinda. What a challenge it would be to draw a peony? 🦋
I've just sent a 2 SBD 'appreciation gift' to you @melinda010100. Hope you have a lovely week. 🦋
You just enabled me to unexpectedly buy more steem power today! Thank you so much for that very generous gift, my magical friend! Wow! Guess my flower ID skills need more work though!
I love the words and your beautiful and so artistic hands. Up and resteem ;))
Comes a time when we have to let go of our fear of feeling 'inadequate' and actually 'do' what we say we are going to 'do' ~ I've been talking about drawing again for a 'very long time' Margaret. And now's the time ~ I truly feel that in my heart now. I feel that Steemit has indirectly been nudging me towards this 'day of days.' 🦋
Lovely work; please never stop. To deny your gift is to deny beauty to the world.
I've done a very, very rough outline of a drawing I want to do. And am starting to feel unstoppable now @twirble.
I totally agree with you that by denying a 'gift' and not bringing it to its highest potential we are denying what it can bring to the world.
We need to honor our 'gifts' and not be so swayed by all the attitudes we've adopted, many of which we don't even know from where they came. Following. So happy to connect with you now. 🦋
Very Beautiful !
Upvoted ^ ^
Thanks so very much Eve.
Your drawings of people are SO inspirational. Lovely to meet you now. 🦋
Such a beautiful and inspirational post!
Thanks so much @artbycheyenne.
The flowers were so exquisite and drawing always has a way of bringing you even closer to the beauty that is there. Thanks so much for the resteem too.
