Magic the Gathering (MTG) - The Return of Split Cards
With Guilds of Ravnica prerelease around the corner, let's look at the other returning mechanic in the set.
Split Cards
As you see it, split cards makes a return to Ravnica once more. For those who has never played with split cards before, here is a review about how split cards work in general.
They will appear on instant and/or sorcery cards as two different spells on a card which make them very versatile in a given situation.
When you are casting a card like this, you will announce which half of the card spell you are casting. While a split card is on the stack, only the half you are cast is there while the other half of the split card is ignored. Outside of the stack, they have the combine characteristic of both halves.
Looking at this split card, the left half of the card has a mana cost. What it is called a hybrid mana. Let's look at how it works.
Casting Response can either be paid with either {RR}, {RW}, or {WW}. Seeing the mana symbol like this is also that symbol's color which in this case Response is both a Red & White card.
This also wraps up the mechanics going into Guilds of Ravnica.
Don't miss out on this prerelease on Sept. 29 - Sept 30.
