사랑하고 사랑 받는다는 것은
태양을 양쪽에서 쪼이는 것과 같다.
서로의 따스한 볕을 나누어 주는 것이다.
그리고 그 정성을 잊지 않는 것이다.
우리는 서로에게 태양이 되자.
그리하여 영원히 마주보며 비추어 주자.
그대의 운명을 사랑하라.
어떤 운명이든지 간에
항상 두 개의 얼굴을 가지고 있다.
한쪽 얼굴은 어둡고 우울하며
다른 한쪽 얼굴은 따뜻하고 밝다.
어두운 얼굴을 가리고 밝은 얼굴을 택하여

사랑한다는 말은 누구나 할 수 있지만

사랑한다는 말은 그 순간 가슴이
벅차 오르는 것만으로 할 수도 있지만,
사랑이라는 마음을 주는 것은
그 사람의 마음과 아픔과 어둠까지도 껴안을 수
있는 넉넉함을 간직했을 때만 가능한 것입니다.
그렇다. 우리는 중요하지 않게,
다복하지 않게 태어났다. 그러나 중요한 것은
우리에게 어떤 일이 일어났는가가 아니라,
우리가 일어난 일을 어떻게 받아 들이는 가에 있다.
물 위에 글을 쓸 수 없다.
물 속에서는 조각도 할 수 없다.
물의 본성은흐르는 것이다.
우리의 성난 감정은
바로 이 물처럼 다루어야 한다.
사랑은 우리를 행복하게 해 주기 위해서
존재하지 않고, 우리가 고뇌와 인고 속에서
얼마나 강할 수 있는지를 보여주기 위해서
존재하고 있다고 나는 믿는다.
만일 내가 어떤 사람에게
"나는 당신을 사랑한다."고 말할 수 있다면,
"나는 당신을 통해 모든 사람을 사랑하고,
당신을 통해 세계를 사랑하고, 당신을 통해
나 자신도 사랑한다."고 말할 수 있어야 한다.
사랑이 시작될 때, 사람은 가장 행복하다.
그때는 사랑하는 사람에게 아무것도 원하지 않고,
아무것도 계산하지 않으며, 사랑에 대한
순수한 기쁨만으로 충만해 있다.
세상의 첫째 조건은 그 마음의 순결함이다.
목적을 이루기 위해 견딘 시련들이야 말로
우리가 얻을 수 있는 가장 커다란 승리이다.
위대한 사람들이 처음부터
영광의 월계관을 쓰는 일은 극히 드물다.
종종 세상을 바꾸는 가장 큰 힘은
경험과 역경을 통해서 자라난다.
