Chuck Schumer and the Race for "I Did It!"

in #marijuana7 years ago

The Democrats have been making some really bad plays of late. Suing the Trump campaign for collusion with the Russians and opening themselves up to the Discovery process about Imran Awan, how much he was really being paid by the DNC, what information he had access to, to whom that information was sent, etc. - just dumb moves. Not to mention that, after the DNC made this an issue, the Trump Campaign will probably subpoena more of their records on their anti-trump efforts to see if this isn't a problem of their own making. Which it is. Honestly, what the fuck are they doing over there?

Well, (1) No, you won't; and (2) Is this what this is really all about? You're so strapped for cash you tried a slap suit?

So, Chuck Schumer, I'm guessing, noticed the disarray of his party's national committee and is now racing as fast as he can to be the one who says, "I was responsible for decriminalizing Marijuana!" What a win that would be for the Democrats, huh? Giving the states the right to decide what their own internal policy would be and rolling back the Commerce Clause based theories which support the - What's that? That isn't a win for the Democrats, who make their living centralizing issues to the Federal Government and then grafting out large contracts to their buddies? Oh no. How could they keep fucking everything up?

The idiocy of the attempt doesn't even begin to scratch the problems I see inherent in Chuck Schumer doing anything with Marijuana. The Senator from New York, which made Medical Marjuana such a goatrope that nobody can get any outside of Manhattan, because the highly regulated entry point for the market filled up all the high end retail points first and left anywhere outside of Albany just SOL, yeah, he's the guy I want in charge of Federal changes. Not the senators from Colorado who made their state's red budget black with legalizing and taxing (reasonably) the sale of Marijuana.

This rambling post comes down to this: if the Democrats think that racing to legalization will help them, great, it won't. For it to be a Democrat issue, it would have to be on the table in the 2018 senate races. The Republicans, if anything close to intelligent, will just wipe the issue clean with quick Federal changes to scheduling and let Trump pass the law which gives States the right to choose. That is a State's Rights issue being passed by a Republican (in name) President. Honestly, a big win for the RNC and I hope the Democrats are stupid and desperate enough to let it happen. I don't care how the Federal government has its overreaching power rolled back. It just needs to happen.
