Cannabis 101: Strain Feature - Headband
Headband is a classic indica dominant hybrid that has attained a legendary status in the cannabis community. Having taken home the 2013 Cannabis Cup in the hybrid category, Headband is a smooth and silky strain that will ease your aches and pains and help you take you away on a euphoric magic carpet ride.
FLAVORS AND AROMA
Headband has an earthy and mildly diesel flavor with slight citrus overtones. You may encounter a peppery spice when you first taste it it. Once the flavor sets in you can sense the strong pungent and musky flavors. The lemony essence kicks in mostly on the exhale. Some phenotypes have more of a piney aroma.. The terpenes most responsible for Headband's tastes and smells are Limonene and Myrcene. Limonene is responsible for the lemony citrus flavors, while the myrcene acts to enhance the euphoric nature of the high, and also add to the earthy and skunky tones.
GENETICS
The lineage of Headband contains two famous strains, known for their potency.; Og Kush and Sour Diesel. OG Kush can be found in most American west coast strains these days. It's strong genetic, based on a land race indica, Hindu Kush, makes a great backbone for breeding. Sour Diesel is a strong indica that caught on in the early '90s. It contains both Skunk and Chemdawg genetics, so you know it's a powerhouse. Due to it's strong lineage, you will often find headband crossed to make a number of incredible offspring, like Blueberry and Strawberry Headband.
EFFECTS
Being an indica dominant hybrid, Headband is a relaxing and anxiety-reducing strain that is great for a nightcap before a long night's sleep. Having fairly low CBD, but a good mix of cannabinoids including CBG, THCV, and CBL, Headband creates a warm body high and a momentary pulse around the temples as the buzz starts to kick in. Headband cane take a while before the full effect takes over, so go easy until you start to feel it. The high is very euphoric, and will carry your thoughts away on a silken cloud. Don't plan a hike up into the mountains, as odds are you are more likely going to want to curl up in front of the tv with a bucket of ice cream.
MEDICAL USE
The primary uses of Headband for medicinal use is as a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory. The balance of cannabinoids make for a soothing body buzz, which can quell nausea and relax tense muscles. Headband is a calming and soothing strain, which also makes it great for insomnia. If you have an active day, maybe try Headband in the evening, and go with a more uplifting strain to get going. The very nature of Headband makes it a great mood adjuster as well, so definitely give it a shot if you're having a stressful day. All in all, Headband is an extremely well balanced strain whose effects have something to offer to everyone.
