How to put pictures and links in your post

in #markdown8 years ago

PICTURES

It's pretty clear an easy way to make your post look better is to have pictures, but not everyone knows how to do it, so for those who don't, I'll show you.

Optional Steps: If your picture is not hosted online already, you need to do these steps.
Go to an image hosting site and upload your picture. My favored site is sli.mg, but other alternatives like imgur.com also work. For this tutorial, I'll use sli.mg.

  1. Go sli.mg.
  2. Click the box in the middle to open up a file prompt so you can select the picture to upload.
  3. Click Start Upload
  4. Copy the Direct URL

Now to put the picture in your post, all you have to do is paste the link into your post with a space or enter after, and there it will be! If you want the image to have alt-text, which is what shows up when you hover your mouse over the picture, you have to do things a little differently. "![desired alt-text](image url)" is the format (without the quotation marks, of course!)

LINKS

Links are quite a bit more simple. All you have to do is follow the format. "[text to show](Site URL)" is the format for links (again, without the quotation marks). Make absolutely sure that you have "http://" or "https://" in front of your URL, as some web browsers will trim it off when showing it in the URL bar.

I hope this helped you out. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to comment.
